Trying to hit the easy button on load development for my buddy's 270 for this year's elk hunt. I have most of the appropriate burn rate powders for the 270 and really dont want to go through all of them. Plus it's getting late.


What load recipes have worked for you guys with the 129 LRX? in the venerable (couldn't resist <G>)

N560 has been really accurate with every 130 Ihave tried stat at 58ish and work 60 grains is where I stopped.

I have not used the 129 LRX but I have reloaded various 130 grain bullets. H-4831 shoots consistently tight in my 270's. The charge info is listed on Hodgen's site.

BTW I also use H-4831 for 150's.

60.0 gr H-4831sc, Fed-215, SD = 3.275" This is 0.025" deeper than the Barnes manual lists.

Last driving band is inside the neck.

In my Kimber 84L Classic I used 55.3gr H4350 BR2 primer in RWS case with the 129LRX, YMMV R16 showed promise but ultimately the rifle didn't care for it. Good luck to you..

Thanks guys. I have Re16 and IMR 4451 loaded at the moment and have H4831 sitting on the bench. I'm pretty confident one of them will work.

H 4831 or 4350. Been hearing good things about reloader 16

Re 16 has become a staple in my powder supply. Anywhere 4350 works, Re 16 seems to work just as well. I tried it when H4350 became unobtanium.

I say go H4831SC, though I'm currently suing IMR4831 myself. I'm just starting to play around with RL16, but if it's anything like H4350, it's a winner.

Hard to go wrong with any of them B. You’ll really just have to nitpick 50 FPS and a 1/4” with any of them likely.

Have some loaded up with RL26. Just waiting for winds to die down and see how they perform.

I like RL22 and the 130gr TTSX.

Speed, and accuracy. What's not to like?

BC of 0.39 is my only dig on this bullet.. The TTSX generally shoots better than the LRX for me.

129 LRX is 0.46

130 NAB is 0.435

My daughter's Rem. 700 shoots the 129gr. LRX into small groups with a Win. LRP in Rem. brass and 55.0gr. IMR-4350 seated to the bottom of the top relief groove. She uses it for everything from mice to moose and has told me many times not to mess with her gun or load and I think she means business! She helped my load them so she knows what they look like!

55.0gr of IMR-4350 is pretty well known as an easy button in the 270 Win and 130gr. class bullets. It certainly has proven true with a couple of 270's I've owned!

MV is 3150 with her 24" barrel.

I always seem to get great accuracy with H4831 or the SC version but not always the best velocity out of my 270 and 280. Reloader 16 for me has been the best of both worlds for me at least.

Yeah, if a .270 Win. doesn't do well with either H4350 or H4831, your problem is not powder related.

I would go 54.5-55.0gr imr4350 or the equivalent load of H4350. I have not tried it with the LRX but it works well in many 130 gr loads as elk country stated.

My 129gr LRX load that's been accurate in my Rem 783, (22" barrel) is 55-56gr (56gr is warm w/ noticeable flattening; thinking 55gr is a little safer, just under 3100fps) of RS Hunter, Win case, Fed215, low 3100fps. Right about3/4MOA @ 100yd. 0.050" off the rifling. COAL 3.240". Easily minute-of-deer or elk out to multiple 100 yd. Good luck!
