Lots of people buy BGEs for decoration.

My brother has bought an L and a XL with all the extra schit and paid $600 each. The ceramic on the inside was still as white as notebook paper.

People can say other brands are just as good as others but you never know how often they're really being used and at which temps. A good example of this can be seen with place setters. If you think all ceramics are the same buy a lower grade and routinely cook pizza and prime rib at over 500*. You'll quickly find whether you saved or wasted money.

Having said that, if you don't cook out all the time, and don't use the high heat capabilities of a ceramic, most any brand will probably work fine and forever. But make no mistake that all ceramics are not equal.

There are sometimes Egg Events - a person can pick one up there cheap as a demo or something.

IIRC - GF got hers from Mad Dog and Meril - she made their sign for them and got her one cheap. No clue the cost.

Just made corn on the cob on it last night.

I have a large and a Mini-max. Always wanted a Primo’s oval for some reason. They’re solid.

They're definitely at the top. Others may be as good but there won't be much difference in cost.

Pork ribs are better than beef ribs.

BGE has had an event at Stone Mountain for years, they are all used just for the event and sold. There will not be one this year but several others are planned in other states.

Doubt that my knockoff 3 layer steel egg type would hold high temps like the real deal.
I use it for slow/low or quick/hot and it does the job, pretty much all I'll ever use it for.

BGE, Kamado Joe, and Primo are your top end ceramics, and all fairly similar for the most part. KJ probably has a better hinge and gasket then BGE. I wanted a KJ but had no dealers nearby so I went with another BGE. In hindsight, I wished I had actually gone with a Primo Oval XL. I feel the oval shape to be better than round.

People that don’t have a Big Green Egg are called losers.

When growing up in Japan as a kid, every porch had a "big green egg" on it. They were like today's cheap Weber. The wealthier people had other grills. Your wife ever priced clay flower pots? Cheap as dirt. SOMEBODY is making a LOT of money off the American ego.

Close your vents more, high heat is not from too much charcoal.

Temps aren't a function of how much fuel you have. Feel free to fill your Kamado to just below your grates. You're gonna have to get the feel for when to start dampening down your air flow. Get it started, I use 1 firestarter wafer I got off Amazon in bulk, close the lid and let it come up to temp. At this point you have both the upper and lower vent wide open. Once she is rolling and you can see temps climb, dampen it down. Bottom vent is your "coarse" adjustment and the top vent more "fine". With a little trial and error you'll nail temps in short order.

Youtube is your friend when it comes to kamado cookers.

You'll quickly sort out the idiots from the people who know what they're doing.

Youtube is also good place to find comparison tests of lump charcoal. The brands are not created equal.
