Has anybody seen one in the wild yet?

Also, am I right in my understanding that the earlier discussions of feeding issues with the Oregunsmithing floor plate system applies only to Grendel and not .223? I'm thinking that would be a very interesting setup for a .25-204 build.

Landyboy,

Is the bottom a 20" heavy barrel? How do you like it compared to the 22" barrel?

I have been looking for a Mini 22" barrel in 223 and have not found one yet?

Yes bottom is heavy contour 20" its actually my favorite combo. I have a 222 and a 204 MIni in the same 20" combo. Its been a little while since I've seen a 22" up for sale.

Reported weight for the Grendel from a seller on the Broker of Guns:

Quote
We have had several requests asking us to weigh this rifle. On our digital scale this rifle weight shows 4 pounds 11.4 ounces with bolt in it . Different scales may show slight differences? HOWA states 4 pounds 10 oz's in advertisements .Your scale may show different ? We are not gunsmith's, and most likely not the same quality scale HOWA uses ! We do not claim any accuracy of the scale we have used here !

(Item 902410815)

I have no affiliation with the seller, just reporting to disseminate and archive the data. I suspect that the 4 lb, 10 oz figure is for the 7.62x39, and that .223 will be correspondingly heavier, maybe 4 lb, 13 oz-ish. For those counting.

I've also seen some doofus copywriter start to screw up the original reported figures and put it in materials as 4.10 or 4.11 lb.

I have a 4x12x40 VX-2 on mine they are listed at 11.6 Ounces. 2.1 OZ for the Talley rings difference is 4 Pounds 15 Ounces on my 223.

I'm not perfectly tracking you. Do you mean that your all-up weight is 5 lb, 12.7 oz, and 4 lb, 15 oz is the rifle without rings and scope?

Without actually taking off scope and rings I estimate it at 4 pounds 15 ounces for the Rifle with bolt and mag. Plus or minus an ounce or two for scale accuracy.

Looks awesome. Love the mini platform although it isn’t perfect. Howa is about the best out there as far as I am concerned. They do a lot of things right although not everything.

I'm thinking Kommie 30 rebored to 9x39 with threaded barrel. Forward mounted scope. LOP to 12.5". Sweet carrying gun and with the bobbed barrel,18", not horribly long with suppressor. YMMV. Be Well, RZ.

Seems like it would be a lot easier to just go .300 BLK. But not as loony, I suppose.

Have you had one fail? I haven’t. Honest question.

Brian Pearce includes the 1500s among the rifles with the least issues, and has never said anything AFIK, about this.

Haven't had one fail, but I've taken a few out and looked at them with magnification, and as a fastener geek, it's obvious why they do fail. I consider them defective in both design and manufacture. Fortunately, it's simple enough to replace them with a shoulder bushing (needs to be custom made, but the simplest of lathe projects) and a socket head cap screw (COTS item) that will be vastly stronger.

Reviews here tell the story, and there are reports of it around the web if you search.
