24-26" in different rifles
Game changers are shot on some distance shots, not close up and penetration is great.

What bullets are you planning on running?
If one were planning to shoot some long 105's, 107's or even 115's you could have it throated to put the point where the boat tail meets the OD at the neck/shoulder junction and still have lots of mag space.
"after the bullet leaves the barrel it doesn't care what headstamp was on the case" "The 221 Fireball is what the Hornet could have been had it stayed in school"

Hey Rick ..... That is along the lines I was thinking. Problem is that now there are no bullets like that in Canada right now, so might hold off for a bit a see what happens.

I would sell the action or the brass or more likely go 6mm AI or 6mm-06. I really like my 6mm AI and it seems to be about the maximum case size you can go before getting really short barrel life. Velocities are close to the 240 Weatherby and I think I do notice the slight improvement over a 243 in the field, easier to hit with, less wind drift and improved terminal performance. I always have one or more stock .243s so no problem using up components or if I lost or forgot my ammo.

Considering that scenerio, I would sell the pieces and build what caliber you want on a Tikka. They are all long action, light and very accurate. It is likely that you could build a .243, a 6m., a 6mm-06 or .240 Weatherby all on the same action, using the same 6mm factory barrel. Just change out the bolt stop and magazine dependinding on long action or short action.
