Well, after the first two days, my initial observations are:

1. it's a LOT hotter, dryer, and noiser than rifle season

2. a compound bow is more awkward to carry all day than a rifle

3.(an obvious one) you've got sneak veddy close to the animals you're hunting.

Naturally once I tag my first muley and elk none of this will matter. Just a newbie's adjustment to a new reality.

This is the hottest friggen archery hunt I have ever had. Nothing is moving until nearly dark (I am elk hunting). I am seeing a lot of bulls, but getting close is tough, due to the crunchy dry brush. I have had better luck sitting on trails between bedding and feeding as well as on water holes. I haven't been able to sneak up on my own shaddow. Flinch

Right, there with you. got my first muley last weekend. Ended up going up to independence pass around 13000ft to get away from the heat, a bonus was a lot less under brush grows at that altitiude. I don't think I will go for an elk yet not till a little more experience.

Good luck, hopefully you get a cool front
