Good points. I liked the Honda Pioneer 1000-5seater concept a lot, and I like Honda in general. But when I got in one and pictured putting my family in there with our gear, it was a no-go. My SxS needs entailed more cargo room and didn't require as much go-fast capability. Looking at the big crew-cab Polaris and Can-Am rigs, they were simply too long and cumbersome. That's primarily what pushed me to the FXT Mule, the room is there when you need it, while still being on a fairly moderate wheelbase. If I was single guy, I'd probably have just bought a single-bench Pioneer 1000 from Honda. The power steering option is a must-have, regardless of model.

Very good points indeed.

The Kubota the OP asked about would not do what I need nor would a Jeep.

Kinda funny how many don’t understand that though.

Not that it matters to most of ya...but the big Honda won't fit in a horse trailer.

Not sure if the 1000 Polaris will either.

Next machine for us will be a 570 Ranger I think.

Noise level should be another concern if you want to use it for hunting, although many of today's machines have gotten much less obnoxious in that department. Still not quite as quiet as a truck engine, but getting close. We still use a couple of Tacoma pickups and an older 4Runner for hunting and chores, and they're fine when the trails are big enough and the winter rains haven't really set in. Really nasty mud or tight trails, and the SxS units are preferable. They ride better too, when terrain is rough. A lifted compact Toyota is a going machine with good mud tires, but they'll beat on you pretty badly if you are scooting around with any speed.

My short wheel based 500 does exactly what I want it to do. It's not fast, or fancy, it just works.

We used a Razr for 2 years and have since used 2 Wolverines. The wolverines are a much better fit for hunting, IMO. Easier to get in and out of.

I’ve got a 6x6 of similar vintage. Fuel pumps are $20 on eBay. Replacement carb is $40. Yes, it’s “primitive”, but I can fix just about anything on it, for next to nothing.

Luckily, the only issue I’ve had (knock on wood) has been the fuel pump. It’s mounted next to the engine, and it would get hot and stop pumping. Only took about 10 mins to replace.

I mentioned these earlier in the thread, but they deserve a look. I've had Polaris, Yamaha, and Kubota, but I like these the best. They are overbuilt and tough as nails, made here in the USA in Batesville, Ar. Damn good machines.

Love my Wolverine. I wouldn't call it a "work horse" per say but it does everything I need it to do.

Kubota sucks, the airflow intake for the radiator is behind the front tire so it kicks up everything and plugs it and they overheat. If it's the convertible type you have to raise the bed or undo it to get to the radiator to blow it out. Not a big deal unless you have a load, which you probably do if you have the bed folded to max size. Gutless in terrain and speed to boot. It's a diesel so reduced fire danger I guess if that's a concern. My next will be a ranger. Had kubotas got work since 2010 for what it's worth. Everyone I know who has used them like I do has the same gripes. Ymmv

We have had a kubota diesel. Run it by red river fairly rough terrain lots of up and down and elevarion change of 100 feet. It is slow, but manages the hills well. We had a rhino with over 6k hours, it was faster and fine. We have another new side by side Yamaha - i dont like the way the accelerator responds - it lurches-makes for a terrible ride. We also have a honda side by side. They are all fine with the exception of the lurcher. Chores are done out of the kubota. Anything hauled or trailered of note is by truck. We got vapor locks in the old rhino - that was a pita. Quads for really bad road conditions. Keep good tires on them all.

That's not how mine is.

It is slow, but they're hell for stout. I Iook at it like a mini off-road dump truck. The diesel isn't quiet, but I have fuel onsite, so no messing with jugs or suffering the woes of ethanol.

I’ll tell you the biggest challenge here is finding anything in stock. I called the local Can Am dealer today and they said they had deposits 4 deep on the model I was looking for. Called Kubota dealer and he chuckled at me before I even finished my sentence.

Buy once, cry once.
