The 240 gain bullet was designed for 44 mag velocity. So pushed to 2200 ps, it opens violently in deer.
I get the same effect with 300 JHP in 45-70 when loaded to Marlin pressures.
Nothing beats a large diameter bullet on game. My preference is still .358" or larger

What is a "boat paddle stock"?

Is this the straight grip stock of the early big bore Marlins? The early rifles had straight wrist stocks, later ones got the curved pistol type grip.

What’s a fair price for one of these in decent shape? I found one in a pawn shop. It’s a 1982 pre-safety 444S. Has a matte Leupold VX1 2-7x33. Tag says $949 but the lady told me to come back Friday as they are having a sale. She said she would give me their lowest price.

I lucked out last week while we were visiting out of town and happened to visit a pawn shop while waiting for my wife to take care of some other business. Found this 2nd year production (1966) for a super price in today's market. I've located a die set and some bullets, now to find some brass to load and maybe a front sight hood...
