I've used 220 rns at close range. They worked as one would expect. Punched through from the front leaving a nickel sized hold right through the scapula and into the lungs and beyond. Lost it in the rumen.

Last moose hunt in Alaska I took my 300 wm. Shot the 180 at 300 FPS faster. Don’t know it mattered but I felt better when it started getting dark and the grizzlies were about. As far as killing moose I killed four with a 308 win and 180 grainers. Two instant dead. Edk

Thanks for all the input guys. I was wondering if the 180 g Interlock RN bullet would be alright, I suppose I think it would be - but I have just found a box of 200 grain Partitions at the gunshop….

The 30=06 will bounce off moose

While I've never personally used a 30/06 for moose, I've lost count of how many moose I've helped gut, skin, quarter, and pack after someone else used a 30/06 with either a Core-Lokt, Power Point, or Power Shok factory load. I recommend whichever load you are most confident shooting and using. It is unlikely anyone/anything else that is involved will know the difference.

You will like those 200gr partitions. They have always shot very well out of all of my 30-06 rifles. Excellent on deer and elk too.

More than adequate - 200 grain partitions just add a little icing. I personally can’t ever imagine feeling “undergunned” with a .30-06 in hand and good bullets.

I used a 30-06 168 ttsx on my last moose and it preformed perfect. Only had a neck shot at 210 yards bull went straight down. I loaded this same load for a friend and he took his bull with one shot to the high shoulder. Very happy the way this bullet preforms on game.

I used the 168TTSX on a moose with a 300WSM at 3000fps MV, worked great. I am sure it would be just as great a little slower from an O6, I would also have no issue using a 180NP or the OPs 180HSP. Moose aren't that hard to kill. just shoot them right and its all done.

Where are you hunting moose? I’ve never seen the Alaskan variety, but I understand that they are a great deal bigger than the Eastern Canadian variety that I have seen. When I hunted in Newfoundland, I used a .300 Winchester and the other fellow in camp had a .300 WSM- I asked the guide what good moose rifles were, he said the .30-06 was the best, and he didn’t know why anyone wanted any more. I would not mind using the 200-grain Partitions that you mentioned, but I would feel perfectly fine with about any 180-grain bullet loaded in my .30-06. Again, based only on my experience with “small” moose varieties- but they didn’t seem too small after the shot was taken!

If I remember correctly
I push mine 168ttsx around 2950fps out of the 06 with big game powder

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

You should use a 250 grain in your 06 for moose.

If I had the opportunity to hunt another bull moose, here in CO (can't do it tho, it was a once in a lifetime tag), I would go for the 30-06 in my gun safe without hesitation, and load it with Barnes 165 gr. TSX bullets.

They said she really scared them because they did not expect a charge. She had little bitty antlers. I think they were atypical. Anyway, I gathered from their conversation, they would have preferred a heavier caliber. Its all about shot placement. Seems to me a heavier caliber might allow for slight errors in shot placement.

that was a moose that was full of adrenalin, that makes a huge difference, moose were being killed with no problems in the past. load it up and go.

I've shot Moose plural with the 30-06. 150 grain Power Point and 220 grain Core-lokt. They both worked
