Here is a picture of mine. M96. Might have been, probably, installed in Sweden. These are amazing rifles. Anyone thinking about buying a military surplus rifle, Swedish Mausers are the place to start. Same recommendation for this type of sighting equipment, starting with a good 22 rim fire and right on up to high power rifle.
Great thread! I also shot various vintage matches with my swedes, both M96 "as issued" and CG/63s. My favorite by far is a CG/63 with GF rear + Elit front. I think GF rear is sleekest version, certainly wouldn't be bad choice for a hunting rifle. The various sights and CG/63 stocks used to be available from several sources, but supply seems to have dried up .
I have a hand full of Swedes with Elit , Soderin and GF sights plus a CG63 with the Elit . I have never added a sight , all were bought pre drilled with sights attached .
Grumpy old man with a gun.....Do not touch . Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Don't bother my monument and I'll leave yours alone.

I agree. Not too many surplus rifles shoot as well. Gentle on the shoulder too. Something I can really appreciate, since I shoot weak side with irons..

Great information in this thread - I’m relatively new to the Swede and if I hadn’t stumbled on the Swiss K31 years ago I would have been in the M96 corner much sooner. Both of these rifles are my favorite for vintage military matches and I will need to add a diopter to my M96 to help my old eyes out. I do have diopters on my K31 and it helps me immensely!!
