Back and shoulder issues made getting dressed and back to stand less than a smooth affair LOL. Bumped one by Jeep.....always bed there, cant do chit about it.

Stand is a couple hundred yards farther down.
Trying to catch em cutting across thicket or from behind in corn.

Waiting for a tinny thud from walnuts landing on jeep LOL

Thank goodness no osage ( bombs ).

Had an old tin roof barn in woods w osage along side......whammo was an understatement. Pretty funny at that place.

Killed my first deer there in 85, on the trot w a bow.

Man i could sneak like a snake and climb like a monkey back then.

Think hunting was more fun too.

Good luck to all those heading out today! smile

Good luck.

Have the cart, a nice 4-wheeled one, stashed near my spot, but total weight with a doe and all my crap is still about 130 pounds and the “drag” a mile. Lotta work for a fat man who can see 70 just around the bend!

What was really funny is my buds dad put a stand on that old broken down barns fencerow.

Scared the chit out of him when that first bomb hit.

I was proly 100 yards away and heard it.

Good times.

Yesterday was the IL bow opener but the property I hunt is no good until the farmer gets the corn out. I also have 40 acres up in Door Co, WI and made it there for the opening weekend. Saw small does, fawns and a spike buck that was fun to watch. He was so full of energy jumping and spinning and running around like crazy. There's some "feral" apple trees that are as tall as any other tree on the property. Apples are starting to fall and hit the ground with some authority from 30 - 40 feet up! Can hear them from some distance away smacking into the ground. The sound is like a dinner bell to the deer and they've been really going after them. Be safe, enjoy and take care!

VA archery opened this morning. My son is in a tree somewhere West of Richmond I expect.

With one already in the can, I’m waiting for The Rut. Wife has so many veggies in the freezer, there’ll be some serious re-arranging to be done if I drag in another one. The dang green beans just keep putting out.

Bow hunting is my passion, but it's 80°, so I'm going fishing.

No no no, you gotta watch Youtube and get all fired up and hammer on your deer spot for a couple weeks before deer activity picks up 😂

Well, if ya got em, go get em! Good luck to all

My close to home spot just needs left alone til Halloween.
Its got acorns, but every woods around does too, and crops are still up.

Could hit some public and try for a doe
But am still feeling a bit off.

Started my anti inflam scrip and is helping. So might head out tomorrow morning.

The spot i knew pretty well got redone by DNR for game birds, and oddly they trashed a bunch of old fencerows.
Have not deer hunted there since the dozers made such a racket ( they did a lot of work in bow season 2 yrs ago LOL )

I hear ya.
I used to hunt hard from opening day till I scored, and it was often very warm and buggy.
The past 10 or so years I don’t even think of going till late Oct, and I kill as many and often better deer.

Light rain this morning
Stayed home.

Breezy. Rain has stopped but is forcast for off and on all day.

Looking at my old Blackwidow HS hanging up.
And waiting on limbs for my new PSA2

Must admit, dragging that Hoyt compound, release.....and some steps, Gopro.....pizzed me off.

I like light weight and simple.
Am not a gear junky.

Want to video hunting? One guy hunts, other videos.

Figure once I buck out Ill vid my bud. Proly gun season.

Like my Hoyt, like shooting releae.....but going a few hundred yards w that crap along cornfield....prefer something different LOL

At my old good hunting spot the access road was in center and stopped. Had stands around and if you got bored, cold or hungry could get down and still hunt to the Jeep, take a break and then hunt to another stand and take a sit.

It was effective, convenient and allowed for minimalist light weight hunting. Plus it kept things fresh and varied.

Hunting a small spot is very limiting on technique.
And its easier due to surroundings to burn it out.

Admit i have the urge to go sit on oak flat this afternoon, maybe even set up a groundblind.

But w all crops up its a low % deal and I should stay out.

Dont feel like driving to public, id get drenched getting back to the spot I know w crops all up.

Will check it next weekend ( the public land ).
