Apparently you are supposed to close the lid when you flush too.
If the wife ain't speaking, just dry dock a big one and leave the lid up. Guaranteed to start a conversation..

The older they get the more they need to shut the door. Several years ago while on an overnight visit with my in-laws I accidentally saw my 78 year old MIL in the buff on a late night bathroom run. Trust me, you DO NOT want to see a 78 year old woman naked.
