My word we do...but insurrection is not one of them. Mainly as our electoral system works and we have a decent standard of living, couple that with a low crime rate and we get by.

That said, the coppers in Victoria are seen by most to be as crooked as the labor party...and drug use is common.

But mostly we do not have even a fraction of your issues...which is in my opinion an indictment on a system that encourages foreign infiltration and lawlessness whilst stultifying and repressing citizens.

Noted. And I hope that your electoral system remains uncorrupted (unlike ours). I wish you and yours well.

Here is hoping it does...but I think the major reason ours plugs along in the same general direction is that we are happy to crucify any politician that steps out of line, we relish the chance to stick it to them.

You reward your crooks.

I'll post some of the things they highlighted from the act in the video:

[powers of the emergency minister]

(a) put into operation any emergency plan or program that the minister
considers appropriate;
(b) authorize or require a local authority to put into effect any emergency
plan for the municipality;
(c) assume direction and control of the emergency response of a local authority;
(d) acquire or utilize any real or personal property that the minister considers
necessary to prevent, combat or alleviate the effects of an emergency;
...
(f) control or prohibit travel to or from any area of Saskatchewan;
...
(i) cause the evacuation of persons and the removal of persons or live stock
and personal property from any area of Saskatchewan that is or may be affected
by an emergency and make arrangements for the adequate care and protection
of those persons or live stock and of the personal property;
(j) authorize the entry into any building or on any land, without warrant, by
any person in the course of implementing an emergency plan;
...
(l)  procure or fix prices for food, clothing, fuel, equipment, medical supplies
or other essential supplies and the use of any property, services, resources or
equipment within any part of Saskatchewan during the emergency period;
12
c. E-8.1 EMERGENCY PLANNING
(l.1) cause information to be collected, used or disclosed that the minister is
satisfied is necessary to prevent, combat or alleviate the effects ofthe emergency
and for no other purpose;
(m) conscript persons needed to meet an emergency; and
(n) do all acts and take all proceedings that are reasonably necessary to meet
the emergency.

[powers of the local authority]

(ii) acquire or utilize any real or personal property that the local
authority considers necessary to prevent, combat or alleviate the effects
of an emergency;
...
(iv) control or prohibit travel to or from any area of the municipality;
...
(vii) cause the evacuation of persons and the removal of persons or
live stock and personal property from any area of the municipality that
is or may be affected by an emergency and make arrangements for the
adequate care and protection of those persons or live stock and of the
personal property;
(viii) authorize the entry into any building or on any land, without
warrant, by any person when necessary for the implementation of an
emergency plan;
...
(xi) do all acts and take all proceedings that are reasonably necessary
to meet the local emergency; and
(b) of an emergency declaration pursuant to section 17 and during the
emergency period, the local authority may:
(i) cause any emergency plan to be put into operation; and
(ii) exercise any power given to the minister pursuant to subsection18(1)
in relation to the part of the municipality affected by the declaration.

So, it pretty much grants total monarchical authority to the emergency minister. Warrantless entry, seizure of property, forced evacuation of people, total control of travel, fix prices, and to do all acts they consider necessary.

I notice that most of the provisions have been in the act since at least 1989. During recent wildfires, we saw here in the US a lot of the same powers utilized. Forced evacuations, warrantless entry on private property, seizure of property (temporarily), control of travel through road closures... It's easy to imagine more or less benign applications of such powers. The fact that the act spells out such powers so carelessly is probably more an indication of a lack of skill and determination in crafting limitations to the powers without unduly hindering practical use. Long-running "emergencies" like a pandemic theoretically empower ministers or local authorities to absurd degrees, but its not clear that was the nefarious intention of the act and there is no indication that they could exercise such powers without the accountability that any other government act would be subject to. The act doesn't magically suspend higher law. It seems more likely that taking it out of context just makes for good scare-mongering. If that's the case, then those people that talk about it so seriously for more than 20 minutes are pitiful.

Sounds a lot like the war powers act which Commonwealth countries only enact in times of war.

Good for Australia!

Curious what would happen in Australia if you had the same immigration laws as the US and share a border with third world nation of narco terrorists and imported 4 million immigrants from west Africa. lol

Only thing saving Aussies is you live on a very remote island and have and enforce very strict immigration laws, take in very very few refugees and are a very white non diverse country like NZ . Not criticizing btw

Absolutely we would be screwed...the tyranny of distance is not all that bad.

Not too keen on our government adding new stock in to the gene pool to provide hybrid vigour though...that gets up my nose.

I would be betting they think china is going to release phase two.

Just in time for the mid term elections. State of emergency = all voting by mail in ballots.

At a minimum, but more likely to cancel the elections all together.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Give a man a welfare check, a forty ounce malt liquor, a crack pipe, an Obama phone, free health insurance. and some Air Jordan's and he votes Democrat for a lifetime.
