Anyone who reloads knows that smokeless, black powder, and black powder substitutes are pkged in soft containers. This is to prevent massive explosions, such as the OP described.

I'd guess it was an accident....just my humble opinion. Nah, the word police will be along shortly to say that it was a "negligent" instead of an accident.

There’s no way it was a guy reloading, sounds like a meth house to me. Only other possibility in my mind is a gas leak or someone making some home made explosives involving powder.

The "reloading" angle is bullshit. It happened while reloading. OK, now did the reloading cause it? Probably not. Like dying with covid is not the same as dying from covid unless the news media is trying to make a point. Probably gas ignited. I don't doubt the powder went off coincidental to the explosion.

Gas leak and explosion while coincidentally reloading ammo? my guess. been at least two major gas leak related explosions in AZ in last 3 months.

This? https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/...n-seffner-explodes-sending-2-to-hospitalHCFR crews say the homeowner was actively reloading small arms ammunition inside the house when the explosion happened.
He reported there were six pounds or more of smokeless powder in the immediate area. The residence was turned over to the homeowners and is considered a total loss.

Find out what kind of powder did that. The military could use that instead of nuclear.

There's more to this story....
In my years with the utility company we had some houses explode. They were much less concentrated in locale....but would suck the neighboring homes off the foundation in a big one.
It appears there's some b vent in the area and if it were propane... god only knows how big the pond may have been.
I would not buy something that runs on any kind of primer given the possibility of primer shortages and even regulations. In fact, why not buy a flintlock? Really. Rocks aren't going away anytime soon.

When I wa much younger there was a woman down street on some sort of O2 mask or machine. Yep, lit one up they said. My brother had a FIL whose sister lived in his lake cabin. Turned on all propane burners and filled up house. Set a newspaper on fire. Boom! She lived another 6 years in a nursing home.

You hear about these kinds of things every so often. A similar incident happened just south of Burley Idaho a few years ago and nearly lifted the brick house off of the foundation.
Even if powder was normally contained in something harder than plastic bottles that could cause a lot of pressure to build before exploding, why doesn't it ever happen at sporting goods stores or the factories where there's routinely hundreds of pounds of powder stored?
More to the story, as usual.

I have over 100 pounds of powder and many 1000s of primers in the house.

Some time ago, I’m guessing close to 20 years, the house of a local bench rest competitor caught fire. Several 8 lb kegs, obviously, and a commensurate quantity of primers. Other than burning rather vigorously, nothing spectacular happened.
