Since Mcmillian quit doing Winchester inlets, is there another good stock out there? I have a WSM in 7 mm I'd like to get in a quality synthetic stock.

I would reach out to MG Arms in Texas.

Echols Legend is a gem of a stock. I own two in LH. Best fiberglass stock made for a long action Win 70 in my opinion.
Give D’Arcy a call he’s a heck of a nice guy and loves to talk. However, I’m pretty sure he only has a LH long action mold for the Legend. The WSM calibers are short actions.
That really stinks that McMillan quit inletting for the LH model 70.

Appreciate the info. I was not aware that he did not have a short action mold for the Legend.

The Legend stock pattern can be inletted to fit a short action M70. It works out just fine. Don't know if McMillan is still doing so for D'Arcy, but I know they have in the past.

I had a Legend once and thought it was nice except for that stupid straight stock design. Didn't fit me worth a damn. Stocks need some drop at the heel.

@OP. FWIW. If you are thinking about converting a RH stock to LH, check the cast of the stock, first. I purchased a RH HS Precision stock with intentions to convert to a LH barreled action. As soon as I received the stock, I noticed that it had visible cast off for a right hand shooter.

LJB,
I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure the Legend stock that was inletted for the short actions was actually a new mold made specifically for a RH short action, not just the long action stock with a short action inlet.
D’Arcy is a perfectionist. I have a hard time believing he just inletted for a short-action in a long stock….it wouldn’t fit correctly….that would have bothered him. But, I could be wrong….?
I do know this though. He owns the rights to those molds. McMillan can’t/won’t inlet those Legend molds for anybody but D’Arcy.
Last time I talked to D’Arcy he wouldn’t inlet for a LH short-action.
The amount of time/money he spent to get that LH mold made correctly was astonishing. He told me…..IIRC it was upwards of $30,000-$35,000. He also said, that the LH Legend McMillan stock project was one of the worst business decisions he’d ever made….he hadn’t even come close to recouping the money he had invested into making that mold. He’s only sold a few of the LH stocks.
I’m sure glad I purchased the ones I have when I did. They are great stocks w/cast on specifically for a left hander. Best fitting stock this lefty has ever handled.

Leftybolt,
Ole D'Arcy is indeed a perfectionist. However I'm almost certain (99.99%) he didn't fork over another $30K for a dedicated short action LH M70 mold. I've got a few of his Legend stocks in-letted for short action M70's and the only "imperfection" in the fit is that the floor plate to fore-arm transition flutes extend about 0.75" in front of the floor plate. Everything else is fine, er perfect. McMillan at one time did inlet them for short action M70's, but this was under the old regime. Maybe the new management at McMillan chooses not to do it any more. I have heard the rumor that they will not inlet anything M70 these days.

Well, I stand corrected. I didn’t think he’d inlet for a LH short-action.
It is unfortunate McMillan quit inletting for Model 70s. I’ve got 2 Echol’s Legends on LH Model 70s. And also a LH Win 70 in a McMillan Win FWT pattern. All are very nice but that Legend pattern has no equal in my opinion.
Sounds like McMillan is going downhill, like every other good company that gets bought out.
I feel very fortunate to have the McMillan stocks I have.

Brown precision, MPI and maybe James Earl Bridges will do a LH short. If I wanted an Echol's or a Bridge's I would jump on it quickly while hopefully McMillan is still making these.

The Bridge’s stock was never offered in LH from what I’ve been told. If I am wrong and it can be had, somebody please let me know….I’d love to have a Bridges stock!

I redid a Rimrock or Borden RH stock for my LH Win 70 it has mild cast for RH I removed RH Cheek piece and some of the cast. Lefties have to get creative.
