I recently bought a 1990s Remington Model Seven Stainless 7mm-08. It has one of the more recent plastic stocks with the Remington Soft Cell recoil pad. The stock seems ok, but I am thinking of upgrading. What are your preferences for aftermarket stocks for the Model Seven? Photos of your setup would also be appreciated.

I think some of the Remington 700 stocks offered by McMillan are available for the Model 7. My son has one with a factory laminated stock that is pretty nice if you can find one.

I put an HS Precision on my son’s model 7, 308 years ago and turned it into a tack driver.

McMillan Edge or Mt Rifle w/edge fill are very good. I have M7's wearing both of them with sporter contour barrels.

If you run across an older Bansner M7 stock I really like them. I haven't checked to see if he's making them again....last I looked it was only 700's and 70's.

I've not used one of these, but both the Manners Ultra Classic and EH8 look like they would be a nice fit for the M7, depending on what you like in a stock.

I have the same stock on a 700 in 308 and got the same result. HS Precision stocks are not light and Model 7 is notorious for balancing too far aft, so the HS Precision stock might make that worse.

Too bad Grayboe doesn't make one for the Model 7.

My bud has one of those that was made just a few years ago with what I believe is a Bell and Carlson from the factory.

Seems like a nice stock.

The Manners EH8 is a superb stock, and would fit a Model Seven nicely if Manners will inlet for it, which I'd assume they would.
Most of the other stocks mentioned so far have combs with 5/8" or more drop at comb. There are of course plenty of folks who get by with and champion these designs, perhaps because they don't know any better. But if one is spending big money on a stock, one might as well get something designed for rifle setups generally seen sometime this side of the 1940s, as in a stock with the ability to gain solid cheek weld with a scope. If using open sights, more drop at comb will be fine.

Comb height is something Manners does very well. I think the EH3 has become my favorite stock made.

I think Manners will inlet any of the 700 action stocks for the M7.....so take your choice on patterns. The UC and the EH8 are just the slimmer choices.

Several options with Manners. As mentioned above, they don't make many low comb stocks. Guessing they will inlet a UC for a Model 7. I have one. It has about the same relatively low comb height as a McMillan Hunters edge, but it's much lighter.

I have an unmounted EH8+ inletted for a Model 7; I just pulled the wood factory stock off my Model 7 and bolted on the EH8. The comb on the EH8+ is quite a bit higher than the factory stock.

That said I am still too lazy to bed the EH 8 so I might be putting it on the classifieds. It weighs 24 oz without pillars, probably another ounce for pillars, with a 1/2" recoil pad.

My UC weighs 18 ounces with a slightly lighter pad; it's a slimmer stock with a lower comb and a more open grip.

I just pick up the exact same rifle.
Really like the looks of the Manners UC and will probably go that route after we get through this season.

I put a Bansner on the exact rifle you're going to stock and would do so again. I don't know if they currently inlet for a Model 7 but it'd be worth looking at.

Good luck.
