i been using a table saw a long time, albeit a schitty one. got a new saw with some pretty serious balls and have been using the guard. going back to my HS woodshop days, we always used guards. mine works pretty good with minimal interference. most of the videos i see on YT, etc are not using them. you guys use them or not?
and f-uck covid, politics, and 4 cylinder camaros.

I worked trauma ER for a while.
I didn't work trauma long, but long enough that my saw has a guard on it, and I was using a safety harness putting up a ladder stand today.

Yes!!!! I have been a carpenter for 50 years. It’s like a hunting rifle without a safety. Your just asking for an accident!

I saw a lotta table saw injuries over the years. 100% of the time the person injured was not using a pusher. To me, using a pusher is even more important than having a guard over the blade.

Just heard about an x co worker that's in his 40's & has operated press brakes, shears etc. for all his adult life(a master welder/fabricator)chopped off his right hand index on a table saw. Out of his element? Or just let his guard down?
Never get lax is the message I guess.

No guard on mine. In high school shop class we were taught every machine had a certain amount, in inches as a safety margin. I always use push sticks and have an assortment of them made.

Have not used a guard in over 40 years of table saw use. Had a good HS woods/shop teacher so was squared away from the get go and still have all my digits.

I don't use the table saw much anymore but when I did I did a lot of cuts that the guard would be in the way of so it just got left off. Another problem is these little piece of schit table saws, people try to do things on them that shouldn't be done, you can't safely cut a foot off of an 8 foot 2x4 on a 2 ft saw. Also a variety of jigs can be made to make cuts safely. Right tool for the job comes to mind. Best safety rule you can abide by for any tool is to not use it if you don't know how to use it properly.

I agree with using a push stick or sled. Never used the blade guard. Still have all my digits. Always respect your tools and be aware of your work environment 👍

Blade guards get in the way too much. Push sticks keep the fingers out of danger.
Slummy, I do put up with them on a circular saw. Too much a pita to wait for the blade to stop to set it down. Got pretty good at holding it back while cutting in tight uses.
Most people I know who get cut, just flat stick their body and saw together. Numerous fingers ripped from nail down, thighs cut with a circular saw using the thigh as a table.
Other day, I was worried about Old DB. He was putting up a chair rail for Mrs Buck. I'm a proficient chainsaw and sledge carpenter. Truthfully, as a carpenter, im a dam good Truckdriver.
The only tool for this job was a battery circular saw. That didn't work great.
So a bench belt/disc sander was employed.
Still, the cuts in that trim were sketchy. Darn close to the fingers holding the guard back so I could see.
Trying to sand a 3/8" thick return, cut oversize out of necessity, to fit was tough. Only lost a little fingernail and skin.
Results were way better than expected. Have seen a lot of pro work that wasn't as good. (Dam shame, that)

No guard on my grinders Metabo, hell yes I have a guard on it. Unless it's absolutely necessary to remove it. Then it's right back in place

Only used a table saw once without a guard. My right thumb is trimmed at a 45 degree angle lengthwise.
