I’m looking for input on a Bore Sighter purchase, I’ve never had one and I need to get one for my travel bag. Appreciate input from any that own one and use it, thanks.

Your eyes looking down the bore will do a fine job at no cost.

I like the site Mark laser ones They are good for many calibers as long as the cases in the same family
30-06. 270. 25-06
Saves ammo and a lot of frustration

Start with at 50 yards with a big piece of paper and a big black dot made with a sharpie. Should be able to get POI and POA within 10 inches with very little effort. But don't let it bother you. Adjust, shoot another at 50 , readjust then move tout to 100.

Yep. That’s all I’ve ever used. Works just fine.

Investing in a good gun vise and looking down the barrel at 25 yds. is the best. The problem with most bore sighters is how much above bore is your scope mounted? Most are set for 1 1/2". you could get one of the lazer bore guides and use it at 25 yds.

Bushnell optical boresighter. Bore Sighter

Been using one for 40 yrs or so. Works on all rifle action types - including ones where you can't remove bolt and look down the barrel.

eyeball, unless it's a lever or other action that doesnt allow a through bore view.

Something clever here.

I always do what most have suggested HOWEVER (since OP asked specifically about bore sighters) after sighting in you can then take a magnetic boresighter and note where the crosshairs land. Mine is a Leupold and I found on target at 100 does not equate to dead center of bore sighter BUT it is very consistent at around 7:00 on inner markings. This can be a helpful reference.

I think somebody may have already mentioned it. Eyeball down the barrel and first shots at 25 yards or so. I’ve got two to sight in this afternoon.

I've eyeballed it for the past 50+ years but a few months ago bought the laser Sightmark boresighters in 223, 308, and 270. These really just get you on paper at 100 yds.

The 223 and 308 worked per the instructions with the red dot, but for some strange reason that I cant put my finger on the 270 laser shoots a rainbow of colors.

I use my neighbor's brass doorknob across the street. He has a burgundy door that makes the doorknob nice and visible. I set my rifle in my Tipton gun rest on the dining room table, pull the bolt and line up the bore with the doorknob. Then adjust the reticle to the doorknob. Re-check the bore, adjust the reticle one more time and it's done. You're ready to go fire live rounds. I've never failed to be on paper at 100 yds after doing that.

Leupold Zero Point - best one I’ve found.

Once I understood how to use it, I usually hit close to the bullseye with the first shot if I guess the trajectory drop right.

Maybe the OP wants to use the bore sighter to recheck his zero after traveling with his rifles. Make a note where the reticle is on the grid before packing the rifle. Check again when unpacking if shooting at a range is not available.

Exactly. I have the bore site with the barrel pins and front optic. I zero my rifles on the range then mount the boresite and mark where the crosshairs are on a corresponding paper. I do it for each bullet weight, each caliber.
I still shoot a whole bunch of coyote control yearly and inevitably I take a spill or tumble on tough or slippery ground. I keep the bore sight rolled up in my pack. I pull it out after a tumble and check the scope, make any adjustment and move on in just minutes, no sound/shots needed.

Osky
To add I bought the current one a few years ago from Cabelas after losing one I’d had for 40 years. This newer one has 15 bore pins from .17-.45.
