They don't want to destroy us....we supply their materials and buy their junk.
That's like burning down your bank and hitting your own hand with a hammer. I agree. China doesn't want to destroy us, they want to control us. They want to demonstrate they CAN destroy us if and when they choose. That will make us more compliant. But they still want to be able to exploit our markets and profit from our technology.

Well... If they got the tech for it. It's obvious they stole it from us long ago. Just like everything else......

What rem141 said. The much-derided concept of MAD, or Mutually Assured Destruction, is in fact the guarantee that there will never be a nuclear war between the major powers. Starting one would be not just national but global suicide, and all the major players know that.
That doesn't rule out some piss-ant terrorist group firing a nuke - or a radical country like Iran nuking Israel - but the major powers have more sense. Two years ago I would have agreed...but then biden and harris happened, which leaves room for doubt and serious soul-searching.
These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

[quote=Strider1] and sorry if you think that is me being Tin Foil Hat... but if you grew up in the Cold War, within a military family.. and you spent three years in the early to mid 60s in Europe... you take that sort of stuff seriously...
Hmm, I was born to a .mil family, in Frankfurt, W. Germany in '61, so lived right there for the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Berlin Standoff and other great stuff, maybe that's why I am like I am. But how does that explain my two older, ultra-liberal sisters? One born in Alaska, one at Wright -Patterson?
