I would be one that has had less than stellar results with a 270 on Elk. I know, lots of people use them with zero issues. My experience wasn’t that great. And the shots were perfect, but the Elk didn’t think so. I suppose if your hunting an area where you can afford to let the Elk wander a bit and die, that may not be an issue. Washington isn’t that way in most areas.

I’ve use the 338 WM and there’s a big difference in “anchoring” an Elk. It does have stout recoil though. I suppose if she’s committed to it, more power to her.

She’s committed to trying it....I don’t know how committed to staying with it! 😁 memtb

Wrong bullet?

140 grain A Square. Perfect bullet performance, both shots. The Bull just wasn’t impressed. I finally shot him in the back of the head as he walked up through a clear cut.

I was at the range once and a guy was admiring my 375Wby. "Never seen such a big bullet" etc. I offered to let him shoot it. He was all grins after that. Then he asked if his wife could shoot it. I was hesitant, she was all of 100lbs. I almost said it wasn't a good idea, didnt want to have her hurt or with a cut eyebrow. But, he was all "she's tough," so I coached her a little and then she was all grins too! That was a relief.

Some are a bit tougher than many of the men that think of themselves as a man! I guess the term “man” covers a pretty broad spectrum of genetic males! 😁 memtb

I've always admired your wife. She's a tough woman, shooting that 338wm. If I wasn't always wanting to try a new bullet or cartridge on an elk, I'd only carry my 338wm. They don't make a better elk cartridge.. Yeah, I know, you can kill them with a 243. Yada yada... ha ha..

Thanks BSA! She’s mentioned that the desire to accomplish something, is the first step to success! I took the freedom to aggressively edit what she really says! 😂 memtb

I trained an accomplished woman bow hunter who was a complete novice with guns to get ready to compete on a hunting TV show. Natural marksman she did very well in the shooting competition against gals who grew up shooting guns & hunting with rifles. One of the contests had her shooting a 375 Ruger at a charging Cape Buffalo target
. We printed a Buffalo image on sheets of paper mounted to a sheet of plywood mounted to a kid’s wagon, had the grandson start with the rope around him start even then run behind us - charging Buffalo. She slammed 2 into the target with my 375H&H like she had done it all her life piece of cake. Light Remington Classic that kicked like a mule & she just managed it like a pro.

Hell yes.

Yeah and make sure she gets her coat off. Wanna see how much shoulder she has to anchor a 338. As we all know some have the shape to handle recoil and some don't. Mb
