Guys i saw the thread below but its mainly a powder thread. Im wanting advise on cast bullets i can buy, I dont have the time to invest in all it takes to pour my own. I want bullets for plinking and hunting and most of all I want CAST 44 magnums

Yeah, great deal on 240gn coated SWCs...433 for $49.00! I buy them all the time.

The cheapest 240gr plinkers are from Brazos bullets. They are HiTek coated and work well for me. BHN of about 12.

The second cheapest 240gr is Missouri Bullet Company's 240gr "Keith". BHN of 18. Buy the HyTek coated.

The best/cheapest heavy I've used is Missouri Bullet Company 300gr hammer. HyTek coated. .370" meplat. 18bhn. This will work in a 29/629/329 1.7" cylinder, but will not work in a M69 1.67" cylinder without deep seating past the crimp groove. AFIK it will work in all Rugers. I have some more info in my sig line.

The fact you guys took the time to give me your opinion on different bullets means alot and i thank you!! Some things i didnt mention is the only things I hunt with a pistol are hogs and deer. There fore big heavy cast are not needed, although that 300 hammer I like the sound of LOL. As far as plinking goes is a keith style or round nose more accurate? My experience with cast bullets is very limited thus the reason that I've ask for advise.Something else i left out was I shoot a model 29 Smith and a old model Blackhawk
with a 71/2 barrel the smith has a six inch barrel. At this point in life I'm not recoil sensitive. All your opinions matter thanks

If you want to go heavy with a real thumpers, my favorite is Oregon Trail’s 310g GC HCFN True Shot. Accurate, no leading the bore, and reasonably priced.

My pet load for this bullet is 18.5gr H110/W296, magnum primer, and heavy roll crimp. Bout 1100 FPS, and recoil is more like a heavy push, as opposed to hot 240gr loads that wrench the wrist

On your S&W, consider using the .430 version

On the BH, .431 depending on your cylinder specs.

You may find that the 250 and 255gn SWC may be the best general purpose bullet, depending on each gun's performance.

The heavier weights will be excellent for those hogs and deer.

With either a cast 240 or so gr SWC or JSP moving at 1100 or 1200 FPS, you can pretty much blow a hole through most anything on this side of the planet. Hey, if you want to go after a dinosaur, load something heavier. My .44 Mag has a 4.25" barrel. These are the velocities I get with various loads using a 240 gr. bullet:

.44 Mag loads:

240 gr. cast SWC
10.2 gr. Universal - 1132 FPS
10 gr. Universal - 1117 FPS
10 gr. Unique - 1110 FPS

240 gr. JSP
18 gr. 2400 - 1095 FPS
21 gr. 2400 - 1188 FPS
24 gr. H-110 - 1199 FPS
10 gr. Titegroup - 1267 FPS

These are my "anti-personnel" loads using .44 Special brass: (".44 Spl +P")

240 gr cast SWC
7.7 gr. Universal - 961 FPS
7.5 gr. Universal - 929 FPS
7.5 gr. Unique - 944 FPS

Rimrock bullets has a good selection including hollow point, gas checked designs.

Bob Palermo over at Penn Bullets will set you up Brother, custom sizes for CORRECT diameter bullets for your gun. You actually correspond with him, phone/email. Fantastic to deal with!

This is pretty much the same load I carried fir years in my mtn gun or 329 pd while bow hunting in grizzly country. I've recently started casting my own again and I've be trying to duplicate it with the Lee 310g mold. My 329 pd doesn't seem to be fully stabilizing my lee mold cast 310s. The give a tipsy looking hole on paper but I'm not driving them as hard as I ran the Lazer cast 310s.

Make sure you check lead times when you order, sometimes they are substantial. Brazos seems to be pretty quick.

Shot the keith style 255 gr for a lot of years.
Medium or hot they shot well from a couple 3 screws.
My Smiths ( only tried in two ) they didnt do bad but werent the best.

Those guns seemed to like 180 and 200 gr jhps cranked
Did very well w 240 jhps also.

I have my dads old Lyman 4 cavity 255gr mold and some lead. Proly ought to pop a deer w the stuff.

Cheap and good shootin.

I dont like the recoil of the heavier stuff.
255 is it for me and Id like to stay lighter than that.
Running AA9 or WW 296 the loads are always near max.
