Got pissed at Meindl last year and ordered a pair of Danner Santiam's. Tried them on, wore them around the house two different times, boxed them up, sent them back and order two pairs of Meindl's comfortfit hunters and hikers. Wearing the hikers now. Wear their Ontario GTX shoes all summer to work, the hikers in fall and spring and the hunters all winter. Only other thing I wear alot is a pair of Sperry Billfish sandals anytime I'm off work and the weather allows.

I use Hanwag Tatra Tops here in Maine and they're darned.good. used Lowa Sheep Hunters for 15 years but now need a wide. You ought to stick your feet in a bunch.
The way life should be.

What type of hunting are we talking about here and in what season? I’d imagine boots for grouse hunting vs late season whitetail hunting would require a different boot. Lots of folks like to throw out their favorite $400 boot recommendation when the application hasn’t even been defined.

What’s the extreme temperature spread in your AO?

I've had Peter Limmers and a few other top brands. Quality of my Alicos is much better than the primo Peter Limmers, etc. for a number of reasons. My favorite by far are the ones I plan to continue using for years to come. My model of Alicos are Italian leather and italian craftsmanship. Vibram Norwegian welt sewn soles that go hundreds of miles without wear out, firm yet grippy on rocks here in W.V. and forests. If they ever do wear thin, I'll just buy another set of vibram soles and use my stitcher to replace them. Glove leather lined. 6" Tall and 3 sets of hook quick lace up. I've never seen better boots. I've worn them to church because they look THAT good and I had them through the roughest ankle rolling terrain. Ankle support is adjustable and sticks don't poke through the gusseted tongue. I have wide feet, but they have exactly enough room for thick wool socks with liners but cinch snug with thin warm weather ones...fit either way. They go on most hunts and hikes. They breath very well too. They were $300 on sale. Cheapest cost because theyve lasted longer than three pairs of my other boots. Alico, one piece smooth grain Italian art. 🥾🥾

I have been wearing Russells since the 80s. Partly because I have big wide feet and most off the shelf boots aren't wide enough. They cost 4 to600 up front, but they.will last for many years if they are properly cared for. They can replace the soles if you wear them out. My first pair lasted 18 years when I hunted many days and walked many miles. Mine don't leak If I cross a creek. Or walk along way through mud and wet grass. The two pairs I have now are the last ones I will ever need for hunting.

What’s the extreme temperature spread in your AO? I live in TX but for various reasons I do most of my hunting back home in ND as well as MT. The temperature spread can get pretty extreme from one day to the next let alone from the beginning of the season to the end. Different boots for different hunts.

White's is what a wear but they ain't cheap.
Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.
