So long as it is,working correctly, no problem with a,lever safety. My first one was a lever safety, but since then I had the tang safety.
I would never consider carrying a gun with the safety engage. Well, on my Marlin levers I use the cross-bolt loading and unloading but once on stand I go to the half-cock. Your greatest chance of AD is loading and unloading. It isn't hard to get a finger inside of the lever while cycling the action.
