Roundoak, funny that I thought about your cabin last weekend when I was at mine. The reason was , we have cluster flies and cant keep them out. Then the mice get in and eat the flies and there are fly wings all over . This gun season there was no sign of a single mouse in our cabin. Then I remembered your Kite Hawk you mentioned and figured there is one around here cause i could never keep the mice out completely. On SUnday afternoon my son and I got our answer. No hawk, but a weasel and it had a mouse in it's mouth. Have not see a weasel in 30 yrs there but glad to see them. Later, Ihookem. PS, my cabin is about 10 miles from Reds Bar where you were. My son saw 2 deer , I saw 1 cross the Flambeau River.

Our rifle season ended a few hrs ago! Yes I was out, saw 8-10 deer, 2 were bucks chasing does, no big racks, and they were about 300 yrds out on another property. Pretty sun set, nice way to end it I saw 5 different bucks this season, none met our 3 pts per side mim. Would have shot a doe but didn't see one after opening day. Well with in range.

Deer Camp! about as good as it gets!

ihookem, the bird I referenced were Kestrals and they are quite the mousers. They burped out pellets all over porch roof.

Reds Bar or Flambeau Forest Inn is a great northwoods bar/grill.

I see one from my county-Lafayette. I started life in Grant County, though. My first deer came from west of Muscoda by the river. Not like the ones you seem to find but love that area.

Love that cabin. Our season started on the 20th and goes, in some form or another, until the end of January. So we’re just getting started. 😊

navlav8r, there is more deer hunting to be had here. Muzzleloader season started Nov. 29th and closes Dec 8. Archery season began Sept 18 and ends Jan 31st. There is a anterless season for some counties Dec. 9 to Dec 12. Last anterless hunt is the Holiday hunt Dec 24 to Jan 1st. For the 9 day gun season Wisconsin killed 175, 667 deer. Add in the archery deer kill of 94,379 the total so far is 270,046. So we will keep adding to the count.

Good luck in your hunt.

Roundoak,

Without digging up past stats, does that gun kill seem low to you?

We hunted public land in Douglas and Washburn Co. Sitting or still hunting I saw deer every day but one.

T, yes the deer gun kill is down 8%.and 9% below for five year average. The top county deer kill for the gun season was Marathon, 6208.

Any wolf sightings or sign?

I feel your pain, no doubt I feel similarly (and sad) once the gun season passes. Simply a special time of year, like a Holiday!

So how did your group do? Any deer pics to share? I always enjoy them!!!
Got some pics, waiting for other deer camp pics to be sent to me.

grin

Always look forward to your pics, Roundoak!

great looking cabin. Really enjoyed the thread.. Deer photos are awesome.. We sold our camp in Pa. around 2015.. The end of an era for me.. Have been back to that area since 2018.. Where I live now there are few camps.. Mostly tent camps or travel trailers that move from one area to another.. Nothing like those old cabins / hunting camps.. Enjoy!!

Marathon was always up towards the top. I used to live in Marathon Co.

No sightings. A few signs. I heard them howl on the first and last day. Nothing close at all. On the last Sunday, they were howling right at noon.

Rifle season ends Jan 2 unless you hunt south Texas. It opens later, closes later.

I hunted Shawano county opening weekend. I shot a couple does. I never saw any horns but I wasn't feeling particular. Had a great time.

9 days? 9? Jeez, our general gun season in most of Virginia is November 13 through January 1, and if you hunt with a muzzleloader you can start on October 30. And in northern Virginia counties on private land gun season for anterless deer run through March 27.
