Not sure it's the best as that's a pretty subjective thing, but surely one of the best............Doctor Zhivago.
Some great scenery & set in a time & place of history that many in today's world should pay attention to.

So very, very many "best" movies. But for the sake of joining the discussion .... Treasure of the Sierra Madre
In The Heat of the Night
Gone With The Wind
The Lavendar Hill Mob. -- A very well made, very funny movie.) L.W.

John Boy: The classic movie "Casablanca" is indeed a very good movie! But it does not hold a candle to the greatest movie of all time - "The Wild Bunch". Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Rubber.
It's hard to describe and it's very weird, but whenever I see it on I watch.

"Thief" [1981]... I grew up in a salvage yard near chicago in those days... It was glamourized... But the dialog, accent's and attitudes were spot on... so much so that the feds investigated the producers ,directors and cast... Or at least rumor had it ?.. Still makes my hair stand up every time i watch it!...

"It's a Wonderful Life" Makes me pause for a little introspection, and always brings a tear to my eye.

Until he became such a political [bleep], my favorite was “Jeremiah Johnson”. Now, I really like “The Last of the Dogmen” and “We Were Soldiers”!
If we live long enough, we all have regrets. But the ones that nag at us the most are the ones in which we know we had a choice.
