Looking to head down to OK from CO for the holiday antlerless season. The only area of OK I have hunted successfully is in Mayes county and is closed for this late season. McClellan-Kerr in Wagoner county was a bust this past week at the end of regular deer gun. Considering Black Kettle WMA or Skiatook WMA for the holiday season. The first is closer to CO and looks more remote so possibly less crowded. Skiatook is closer to family near Tulsa but looks like it could draw a lot of company. Would appreciate any information from folks who have hunted either area, especially in late Dec. Suggestions for other areas also welcome. Thanks in advance for your help.

Black Kettle is the only one I have hunted. It is in a remote area but gets hunted plenty, there is usually a pretty good crowd opening week of rifle. I doubt that it’ll be overly crowded during doe season though. With the holiday so close and it being does only I just don’t see too big a crowd making the trip.

Good luck

Skiatook will have a small crowd opening day them you will be the loan ranger the rest of the time most likely. I drive through there a lot headed to Hominy and you never see many if any vehicles. Really good friends hunt up in the Bull Creek area and Hominy Creek area but they always take a boat and normally have some luck. Another small WMA is just north of Skiatook on HWY 11 it’s call Candy Creek. It’s about 10 minutes north and gets over look a lot cause it’s small.

Check out Sandy Sanders. I’m not exactly sure of the restrictions there for the antlerless season, but it would be worth checking out. Black kettle would be a good one also, but I think it gets hunted more.

Thanks for the information on Skiatook and Black Kettle. Candy Creek and Sandy Sanders are both closed for the holiday antlerless season. Anybody have experience at Kaw? Thanks again for all the help!
