I have a few Win 70s with triggers tuned to about 3lbs for hunting but I recently acquired a few Rem 700 clones with Trigger Tech triggers and I ordered a new trigger pull scale (I could not find my old one) and was trying to decide what weight to adjust them to. I'm thinking 2.5-3 lbs but was wonder what others have done.

I always set them at 2.5

2.5 preferred. Can do 3 #. Anything else is too light for cold hands (in my opinion) or too heavy for getting the most out of it.

2.5 is good. I run mine a bit softer but my use is a bit different. I was trained when young and have kept the same comfort all these years.

3 works for me. Only have an old fashion RCBS spring trigger scale and feel that pushing it lower would be counter productive, safety wise.

Most of my hunting rifles run around three pounds although a custom Mauser 30-06 has a pull of one and a half pounds. Shocked hell out of me when I finally checked it as I'd been shooting that rifle since the mid 70s when I had it built. That rifle is a favorite that I've used for years. The light trigger has so far not proved to be a problem. I probably should make it a bit heavier but really do like it the way it is now.

2-1/2 to 3 pounds is good for a hunting rifle.

I like a 9 pound two stage.

While I'm not sure if this matters to you hunting down in Florida or not, up here where we're hunting with glove and or cold fingers quite often, we've settled on no lighter than 2.5lb for hunting rifles.

I've had a coyote rifle set lighter than that at 2lb, but coyotes shot at while calling aren't the same as big game so that sort of worked, but my next coyote rifle now is 2.5lb and works just fine.

Recently I dropped my T1X down to about 1.5lb and that works fine for paper, but on cooler days on the range I notice that it'd be too light for me hunting.

I like 2.5 for hunting but for a colony varmint rifle I prefer a lighter 1.5 lb.

I can make 3-4 lb work for clanking and banging in a climbing stand. And draggin a hot rifle in/out of the mud buggy nissan

I build quite a few rifles for hunting purposes. EVERYONE asks for a 1.5-2# trigger. I encourage a 3#+ on a hunting rig. The reasons are simple, excitement, gloves and conditions (grass etc) can all be a problem in the field. When it gets cold, it is always the lighter weight triggers that freeze. Even the triggertech at sub 2# has proven to be a victim.

When shooting good weather from the bags, light triggers are great. If a guy is shooting a higher recoiling rifle in field conditions, trigger weight ain't the reason you missed.

Do you secretly yearn for a spotter to whisper "send it" lovingly in your ear?

I like 3# to 4# on a big game rifle in cold weather.

3 for single stage. Any heavier and people seem to pull the gun down as they shoot.

3# is my standard for hunting rifles. I agree with High Country, especially if you're hunting in cold weather. If you're in a heated, enclosed stand, then go as light as you want.

Give me 3-4, crisp with no take-up.
