I like it. I’m not a big fan of the extended pic rail or tall front sight but I can see how someone using for its intended purpose as a bear protection gun might like the extended rail. I’ll wait to see some reviews before deciding if I want to buy one.

Do em in 460 and 500 Smith and Wesson. Pressures too high for the Marlin action.

Yeah, the design of this one isn't blowing air up my kilt but I can see why Ruger went with it, they know where the market is.
Old guys that already have a bunch of walnut and blued Marlins aren't going to line up to buy new ones that look the same. The market is in the newer guys who aren't tradition bound and want all the latest must-haves, or older guys who like this stuff as well. The rail allows for any kind of scope or red dot and the threaded barrel allows for a brake or a suppressor. The XS style peep and FO front as standard equipment are a quantum leap up from a notch and bead.
Looking forward to seeing what they come out with in the 336 and 1894. If they can make barrels that are a uniform, proper diameter all the way through that'll almost be worth the money right there.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

I have several lever guns and hunt almost exclusively with them.
.22lr 22 WMR .357 30/30 35 Remington 300 Savage
And all mine are blued and from the early 1900's up until about 1975.
Always saw the 45/70 as a bit too powerful for anything in Texas - particularly the piney woods in the eastern part of the state.

So all the haters are dissing this. 90+% of whom wouldn’t buy one anyway. I like it even though I’m not in the market for one.

I kind of like it. I have a JM 1895GBL I picked up when they first came out. It was $599. I put the XS ghost ring sights on it myself.

i like it. thinner forend. could do without that big loop lever but whatever. 1500 bucks msrp is pretty ridiculous though. i haven't bought a new marlin in over 20 years so not sure how that compares. my 45/70 guide gun was $425 new in 1999. i hope they partner with davidsons and talo on some special runs. those are my favorites and mostly what i own.

They need to fire all the gay boys working in their design department. What's up with the picadilly rail on a lever gun?

I was under the impression that the Marlins could take just about any high pressure cartridge. Am I wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time. Edk

I think getting rid of the safety would have been a good way of distinguishing theses as ruger made. they wanted to keep the ruger name off them. getting rid of the safety would have been a way to show the difference. half cock works great, LOL I mean [bleep] they still sell gp100's without a safety on them, LOL

I like the Peep Sight. Can’t believe they put that POS piece of plastic front sight on there. 😡

SBL is the higher end taticool version so I hold hope. I'd like to see what they come up with for a plain 336 size without the rail and cartoon front sight and how much they can widdle down the price.
