Been quiet here. I hope the Chinese red bug hasn't bit any of you.
I been getting an interest in the .38-50 Hepburn so I placed a order with DZ Arms in this caliber with a 1/12 ROT barrel.
Do any of you guys shoot this caliber and what are your thoughts for the long range shooting to the 1K line. I primarily had silhouette and midrange in mind but the 1K would be interesting. I know that the .38-72 has been on line tor the 1k but I wonder if the .38-50 can hold it's own at this extended range.

Hey ole Friend. Good to see you. It's been a while. Yes I will give it a try at Alliance I hope in the spring if I have the rifle. I'm way over do for that match. I have been seeing some of my friends are gone now.
This little caliber will be an interesting upcoming project to keep me occupied for a spell. Yes it will be patched and I have the mould and 700 cast to get me going
Hi Kurt! You'll like it at Alliance there's been a few improvements since you were last there. Those Hepburns with the toilet flusher handles are so ugly their cute!
Yes those Hep's are an ugly looking shooter compared to the 74 Sharps, but you know it's hard for a retired Plumber that has changed a lot of flush levers in the 30 plus years in the trade to get away from using them Y'all have a merry Christmas and stay well.
A 74 Sharps is a ugly conversion of a rifle that was originally designed for paper cartridges and very inefficient with its long hammer throw and dog leg firing pin. A Winchester highwall, Hepburn or even a Rolling block all look better and are better guns.
Not my first time here, just under a different name due to computer loss, emails no longer valid etc. Thanks for the welcome! I know its blasphemy but I never could see the fascination with the 74 Sharps, so many better designs. The Hepburn and Highwall are the pinnacles for me, and if it is historical buffalo era get a rolling block.

PF Those are fine looking Plumbers rifles. I picked mine up a few days after Christmas and I have had time getting 500 .38-40 cases formed and it is a fine shooter but only at 200 yards at this point. I don't have a long range here. I cant seem to get a photo posted here no matter how much I refuse the size for some reason
38-55 Hepburn, I am looking for a tang peep site, like Powderflask has on his Hepburn, can you give some pointers on where to find one and the hardware to install it? Rio7
