OEM tires on the 2018 Taco were 26565R17 Toyo A30 Open country tires. OK so maybe OEM tires aere not the best, but at 23,000 they are starting to get close to the wear bar. NOT real impressed. So it is getting to be time for new tires, Mostly on the asphalt, Cruising at typical interstate speeds Little off road driving and can typically avoid bad off road activities Traction is important though I can typically avoid driving in snow carry some weight once in a while, but NOTHING excessive
What tire am I gonna be buying in my future...
Almost sure there will be some opinions listed here from this site!

Next week my 2020 Tacoma TRD is getting four new Michelin Defender LTX M/S 265/70R16. Never had Michelin so I guess we'll see.
I have 30k on the OEM Goodyear tires and they are just about done but with a WNY winter around the corner, I figured now was as good a time as any.

I like a c-rated LT on a taco. E-rated are rough, in an already rough truck. P-series have short tread blocks and are light duty. C-rated fits.
Now with even more aplomb

I'm a fan of the Michelin Defender LTX for general asphalt and gravel road use. My last set went nearly 60K miles and still had 5/32" tread left when I took 'em off. Currently running 3 sets of them.

I had Michelin Defender LTX M/S for my last set of tires and they were very good and quiet. Now have Falken Wildpeaks and also very good tires, but are a shade louder. But not by much. Falken Wildpeaks are cheaper too. I will by them again.

Seems to be a Michelin Defender LTX M/S echo here. I just purchased four new 255/50R/20 ones for our GMC SUV the day before yesterday. #1 rated tire for SUV's from Consumer Reports for years running and I buy all the April Auto Issues of CR. Pricey little pieces, but I sure got a deal on mine. Store (Fleet Farm for you locals) is having a 20% off sale on tires. Then I signed up for their credit card and got another 10% off and because I spent what I did, they are sending me a $25.00 gift certificate. Then Michelin is sending me a $75.00 Visa pre-paid card from their winter promotion. Then a local used tire guy is giving me $75.00 for the half worn OEM Bridgestone Dueler tires that we dislike a great deal. I have Defenders on my F-150 that I like a lot and we have Latitudes on the other GMC SUV that are great tires. You could do far worse than Michelin Defenders.
My other auto is a .45

Yep, Michelin Defender LTX M/S like others here have advised. If much mud driving was needed I would suggest something else but for what you described with a little offroad, like dirt roads and 2-tracks, you cannot be these Michelins.

First set of Michelin XLT A/S (Sam’s equivalent of the Defender) P265/65-17 on the wife’s 4Runner went 78k. Current set is over 70k but probably could be replaced.
Have Defender LTX M/S LT275/70-18 on the Tundra. It sees mild off-road use including rocks. Not much mud.
I’m a fan.
For your use they can’t be beat IMO.

For your application, Cooper AT3 4S or Bridgestone Revos.

One of them when I traded it had 60k on them and they looked really good. They were known as simply the LTX.

I too suggest the Coopers, I put a set on my Titan in 2019 and still have people ask if I just got new tires. The cost was right at $1,011 they have a 60,000 warranty and are effective in all sorts of weather conditions and roads. Here in Boise Idaho we had hard winters and I frequent the Idaho wilds all year long.

The Michelin Defender LTX M&S tires went on the GMC SUV (4,800#) yesterday and the wife drove it home and likes them. I drove them today and just backing out of the driveway, I could tell they were a softer, better riding tire than those Brigstone Dueler 20's that they replaced. There is ice on our street and they stop very well without triggering the anti-lock braking. Tar strip noise through the car went from clack, clack, clack to just a muffled thud. As 20's they are firm without the sidewall flex of an 18 or 19, but really quiet out on good pavement.
I referenced Consumer Reports Auto issue in an earlier post and here is their top picks for SUV tires from a few years back: Michelin Latitude Tour Michelin LTX M/S Goodyear Assurance Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus Continental Cross Contact Cooper Discoverer SRX

I wish Michelin would build something remotely resembling at least an all terrain tire...wishing for a mud tire is just silly.

I have BFG KO2's on my Tacoma. I think they look great and are a very solid choice. I spend 80% on road and nothing too rough when I go off road but still feel they are an excellent all-around tire. They ride very well for an aggressive looking tire.
If I were going Michelin (which I think are the best overall tires on the road considering all vehicle types) I would go LTX A/T2's for the Tacoma.

Been running Cooper AT3 on my Tacoma's since 2007 with no complaints. 265 75 16 work really well. Great tire life when you rotate regularly.

I put Cooper ST Maxx's on my Tacoma about a month ago. I'm liking them. They are pretty quiet IMO. And they're not terrible about throwing rocks. They do roughen up the ride a bit. But, I don't mind feeling like I'm riding in a truck. BFG KO2s are always nice.
