There was a thread that whirlpooled around the question: is the good doctor a M.D. or an O.D? IIRC, Jag, near the end of the thread, admitted that his degree is O.D. So, FYI, none of his brain cells got him through medical school.

He’s an optometrist?! Well that makes sense. You could get an OD in the 70’s with enough coupons cut off the back of cereal boxes.

I never denied being an OD. I was an Optometric Physician who passed international board exams to medically treat eye disease and injuries with antibiotics, anti inflammatories, steroids, antifungals, antivirals and other meds relating to internal and external diseases of cornea, sclera, iris, retina, optic nerve, etc.

I practiced at one of the largest privately owned medical centers in the country and was charged with detecting and treating eye disease or referring surgical cases to the appropriate surgeon wheather pediatric, corneal, cataract or retinal and with treating and caring for the patients post op.

Also passed international requirements to specialize in and treat the various types of Glaucoma.

IIRC, an emergency room doc that is a 24hrCF member credits you for saving his vision through an astute diagnosis. Kudos.

And maybe an ER patient he called me about in clinic one day also. In fact, for several years i took emergency calls from many ER docs from several small town hospitals in West Texas.

BTW, carbon, it was no big deal om my part. That Dr spent his working life saving lives and relieving human misery.

I spent my life saving eyes and relieving humans ocular misery, besides detecting an referring systemic medical conditions that showed up in in the eyes and referring those to the appropriate medical specialist, much as he did consulting an ocular medical specialist.

The world needs optometrists; that’s a worthy and honorable profession. If jag was a skilled and careful one, then good on him.

I’m interfacing with the medical world lately, certainly more than I wish I was, so my opinion of what I want from a MD is front of mind. It includes listening carefully, observing, assimilating and synthesizing information, and keeping an open mind while keying out the symptoms towards a potential diagnosis, based on the above, from a reality-based range of possibilities.

That’s why I was a bit dismayed at the idea that jag was a “doctor”. I do not see those qualities.

But, my bad, he’s not that kinda doc, and I have zero reason or inclination to take a shot at his professional life.
