Sent off my fav rifle to Shaen today.

.223 Win M70 Coyote that I bought new in 2001. Rifle has 11,000+ down the tube. Sent it out and had it set back and punched AI a few years ago. Got a few more shoots with it but it was time as groups were getting bigger and bigger.

.224 1-7" Brux #6 in .223AI.

I've had the bbl in my safe for a LONG time contemplating how the 1-7" will be with 40 Vmax at 4,000+ in a mostly high volume varmint platform.

Guess I'll find out soon enough.

Yeah man, it's always been a fun one.

The 1-7" will let me shoot some of the millions of 88 ELD's I have sitting here.

Wish the M70 had a better aftermarket as I'd love an M5 and a better trigger.

Maybe I'll grab a Jewel.

That should be a ripper. Can’t wait to see that build. I’d bet he will get the trigger right. The Rifle Basix shoe isn’t a bad swap and it makes a great feeling replacement and retains the simplicity of the unit.

Yeah, trigger has been the schidt show on this.

Lee (Redneck) did a good job stoning it and built up a pad on the stock to prevent play, but it still has enough movement that it moves from side to side and creates play if I adjust it below 1.5 lbs. It is a great feeling hunting trigger, but as far as a varmint trigger, leaves a bit to be desired.

Understood. That makes sense. That’d be a tough one on a 70 trigger I’d think.

Sweet...Making brass for it will be a good time. I’m at 400 rounds on mine shooting 50g Zmax for small critters and forming brass still.

Those 40's will most likely kaboom in mid air. My 7 twist 223AI can't shoot them. I'm shooting 90's.

You've never heard of bullets shedding jackets in mid air? You clearly have limited rifle experience. A 7 twist to shoot 40's is brilliant. 🤣

No, I’ve seen it.

I’ve also watched you find accuracy nodes with tenths of a grain powder increments.

Funny schidt.

Why would you build a 7 twist 223AI to shoot 40's if you've heard of jacket shedding in mid flight?

Varmint bullets have thin jackets and they'll often kaboom in mid flight from centrifugal force out of 7 twist barrels. Sierra even mentions it in their manual. I was skeptical, so I tried it. Nothing but a puff of dust half way to target. 75 to 90 have shot great.

I've been told that about 1-8" bbl's but haven't had a single issue.

What Sierra bullets are you grenading with a 1-7"?

Had an issue with Sierra Blitz 50 grainers and 50 gr Hornady SX in the 1-9" twist bbl of this coyote before I had Lee punch it Ackley, but that was with 9,000+ rounds down the tube and the throat was alligatored up pretty good.

40 and 50 gr Vmax haven't ever had a problem even with all the throat wear at 3,900 and 4,050 fps respectively.

The 40 grain BT was one of the most accurate bullets in my old 1-8 Tikka 22-250. Never had a weird occurrence.

Those ones you mention are pretty thin. The VMax and light ELDs should be rippers.

You can always go to the blood bank and sell some blood....If you start now, you may even be able to hit it a couple of times before the build is finished.

If you have lateral play in a M70 trigger it needs to be re-pinned. That will also make adjusting your trigger more precise, more crisp.

Sierra claims the Blitz will kaboom, and the Blitzking were the solution. I blew up Blitzkings though, so there goes that theory. 55's and up were fine. Just a bad combo of speed and twist. I've pushed 40's at 4200fps from a 22-250AI with no issue, but it was 12 twist.

My bet is the Hornady’s will hold up until the throat starts going to schidt.

If that’s the case, Shaen will get to put another on.

Well, this one is back from Shaen. Shoots killer and new trigger pin is skookum.

10x FF 75 ELD’s went under an inch.

Will try out some 40 vmax in formed cases next week if time permits.

It certainly is a good trigger, maybe even great. But dangit if it was a Rem 700, Shaen wouldn't have had to listen to me beg.

Push feed M70 with a 700 trigger would not suck.

Maybe I'll go into business..... LOL

I hear you but it is a bulletproof design. I don’t claim it’s going to work through a nuke blast but man it can’t hardly not work without a pile of neglect.

But I wouldn’t turn down a TriggerTech for a couple 70’s. You know, just for science sake whistle

I'd also add that the push feed M70 ejector is light years ahead of the Rem 700 and even the Zermatt Origin.

Curious as to others experiences, but the 4 M70 push feeds I've had have been really great at yanking problem cartridges.

I HATE fhuqking Winchester's for LOTSA rock solid reasons, but the CR/PF Coyote in 7 Whizzum was easily one of THE best OEM rifles I've ever owned. It NAILED The Trifecta(RPM/COAL/Throat geometry) and was a fhuqking HAMMER. Hint.

The 9" RPM 223's were a start in the right direction. The Heavy Varmints(Synthetic) and 'Yotes(laminate),all shot rather well, within their stability abilities. Say that fast. Hint.

Now as 40gr 'Max go,I've shot 'em at a goodly Lineal Clip(4400fps) and a Rotational Clip(4200fps ala 7" RPM),with nary an issue. 'Course,I'm talking more than a "few" fhuqking barrels/chamberings(22-250AI,Speedmire,Swift,Swift Ackley Improved,CHeetah Mach One). Hint.

There is ZERO fhuqking "chance" that a 223AI wearing a Skookum spout,is gonna zook a Hornie '40gr Max,anywhere but inside a goo-filled critter. HINT.

'Course,I've yet to have a RB trigger "issue" either, but I actually fhuqking shoot. Hint.

Fhuqking LAUGHING!..............

Larry,

The .223 Coyote chamber was kinda funny.

40 Vmax were barely seated in the neck of the case!

Shot awesome though with 28 gr of H335 and for a long time.

I bet I put 5,000 rounds down range single loading them before I came up with the idea to lengthen the mag box after reading one of your posts! LOL

Sure took a lot of rounds to kill that hammer forged tube but man was it done!

"Surprisingly",extractors suddenly got VERY "scary". Hint. Fhuqking LAUGHING!

I barely have (15) 223/223AI Boltguns, but you "get" to read about it. Weird that "your" punctuation changed too. Hint.

Bless your heart for living vicariously and pardon my simply shooting ALL the stuff you read about.

Fhuqking LAUGHING!.................

7" RPM Hawk' in 223 SALAMI,at 21". 88's just might be it's mainstay,in AM Steel 5's for Utility and MDT Poly 10's for Giggles. MacaMillion,TT Flatty, prolly a weld or two and a throat jives. Hint.

It's a straight up SENSATIONAL Mind Fhuqk...which is THE Highest Praise...............(grin)

24.5grs,400's,Lapooey brass, moly 88 ELD M square Smooches at 2725fps and brass lives for fhuqking ever. Bushed bolt/'pin,yada,yada,yada. Hint.

That bullet,at that speed,is VERY fhuqking forgiving and will DIG deep...while shooting in the .3's. Hint..................

Been fire forming with 88’s at 2740.

Still on the fence between 75’s and 88’s though.

I’m curious too on the 75’s vs 88’s on deer. Shot lots of deer with the 75’s mostly with a22-250AI but plenty at 223/223 AI speeds. I’ve never fired a 88.

Here's how I relate said query,to them that have shot 75A-Max/ELD's and love 'em,which I assuredly do. Hint.

"Simply take EVERYTHING you know, seen and done with the 75's,then sprinkle same with Extra Goodness...which is what an 88 ELD is". Hint.

Though in fairness,The Retard Twist Rate Crowd sets Drooling, unable to fathom the magnitude of said 75's. Hint.....................(grin)

88’s work well from an 8 twist 223?

Not in my atmosphere. 7.7's,7.5's and true 7's shine brightly in both 223 and 223AI,as per my rifles. I'll haveta' check and see if I have an 8" 22 PPC AFI in a Krunchenticker, but all of my boltguns are faster than that. Could try a Krieger 8" in 22BR to see WTF,but it's convinced it LOVES 75 ELD's and prolly do. Hint.(grin)

A true 8" is a breeze with 88's,in 22-250 SALAMI,AI and Speedmire,in my atmosphere. Actually quite a few Teeker 8" '250's in these parts and all shoot 88's as a mainstay. Obviously, stability increases as lineal velocity ascends. Hint.

Bullets are fhuqking cheap, why WOULDN'TCHA' see what you atmosphere allows?!? Hint......................(grin)

BT/DT...though a true 9" in 22-250 will pinwheel same reliably. More sanctity occurs in 22-250AI. Hint.

Prolly the reason my Rocktucky 223AI wears one of Mike's 7" cut spouts. Hint................(grin)

Launched a bunch of 40's at 4,050 fps from this 1-7" Brux.

Zero issues and small groups.

Glad to hear it.

I imagine you will be fine with them for a long time.

My well worn 1 in 8 22-250 AI can't take them anymore though. As the bore has gained some alligator skin it's gotten a bit temperamental

So what you’re saying is everyone worrying about a little extra twist might be worried about nothing?

Who’da thunk it whistle

My little brother just got his 1-6 1/2 Krieger last week. I think he’s going to do a 22x47. I’m betting a dollar he’s going to love it going from a 1-14 22-250.

Should be a mini hammer with the 88 ELDs.

Yep.

My observation is that more twist makes a good exploding ground squirrel a gooder exploding ground squirrel.

I'm sure as the throat starts to wear the chances of having an issue will increase but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

As a side note, Shaen is really good at what he does. Damn thing is a hammer!

Yeah, that’s good stuff. And I’m not even sure the throat wearing wouldn’t have the same effect if it was a 1-12. Hell, a few bullets to fire lap it might even bring it back to life. But I know you didn’t build it for 40’s anyhow. The Ballistic Tips are pretty thick jacketed anyhow, for varmint exploders.

Got a 1-8" Mullerworks headed to Shaen for a .223AI build on a Zermatt Origin for the Prairie Dog Safari.

Hope they don't grenade half way to the target.

I just snuck in an order for a #2 1-7 Hawk Hill 224. They’re running them right now so I should have it in a few weeks. I’m hoping to rebuild my sons budget ADL 243 Into something a little more fun.

Right now Hawk Hill is running 224 barrels for the next 6 weeks if any of you all need/want one. A few of us have called and got on the list and should have barrels in a few weeks.

No kidding...I’m ears up and waiting for an invitation to play “Smote a Pdog” with Higgy.

Shaen has a 1/2 breed build heading his way from me next week. Rem/Sendero Bart tube @ 1-8 landed at his door already. I have a Tik SS CTR in 6.5 CM en route to me, then too Shaen to rebarrel to 22” at the threads and chamber in 6.5x47 Lap.

Doing a 5 flute on the barrel for styling and weight loss - 🙄

Maybe do black Cerakote over the SS barrel. Then go red on the action. I’ll wear heels 👠 when I shoot it. Keeping the CTR furniture to withstand the “sorry’s” that will happen.

The plan is to have a nice handling UTV/ATV rifle.

That sounds like a good one Beav. I went thru my Tikka phase pretty heavy, but the only one that has stuck is the CTR. it’s about the best truck or beat on gun.

b, as you know, I took some lumps on that Franchi box gun, in 6.5 PRC that I bought on a whim.

I decided after looking at 1400 rounds of loaded, Lapua 123g Scenar ammo - That a handy 47 Lap would be a good play.

I, too, once owned a CTR in 6.5 CM. It was boringly accurate. I sold it to a pard. His girl now hunts with it.

Full circle of life with another CTR.... Lol

Yup. I sold most all of mine then decided to try the 223 CTR. Wished I’d gotten one years ago. They are a no fluff gun I can like.

Having that much ammo on hand would cause me to do the same myself.

I've got all the parts for a 7 SAUM build sitting here that need to get sent off.

My shipping department is on strike at the moment however.

I have got 4150 fps in .223 35 gr Vmax with 18 gr Blue Dot...erratic with primer falling out of every other shot.

I have gone faster with H110, but the chrono will not trigger.
