A cold but sunny day in Idaho, only one 18" trout for my efforts.

Yesterday was my last day of the ice season down here, ice is going fast, and will be gone before the end of the week. It was down to less than 4" thick yesterday and the edges were soft. Today the edges were open water 6-8 feet out from the banks.

It was a mediocre season for me, overall. Lots of dinks, nothing I would call a big fish. All the ponds around here are small, and they got absolutely hammered last winter. I've been living here 16 years, and I saw more people out on the ice last year than every other year put together. The crowds were gone this year, but you could definitely tell a toll was taken.

I'm on the very southern edge of the ice belt, so our season is pretty short. We usually have around 4-6 weeks of good ice... sometimes more, and occasionally no ice at all. It was about 7 weeks this year.

Top of the morning my friend, I'm going to dispense with my usual salutation as I'm going on faith anyone eating that well from fish they've caught just has to be finer than frog's hair!

Thanks so much for the thread and very wonderful photos. Please keep doing both the fishing and the food photos, the colors and composition in both are grand.

I don't always comment and frankly don't wander down here into the fishing section that often, but might have to now.

We or better said I had a slow season this year compared to last year and can't say why that might have been. I'll try the usual lake at least a couple more times if I can, but it's been pretty nice all week here and I've been catching up on yard stuff instead of ice fishing.

Thanks so much again sir and all the very best to you all.

Dwayne

PS
I still can't get over that perch....

You do get your monies worth out of a fishing license Paul. Looks like you guys know your way around the kitchen too.
