Old Ornery: My wife makes an outstanding Rhubarb Custard Pie. It is my second favorite. I think I look forward to Pecan Pie at the Christmas Holidays the most though. A friend of mine who came out to help on an Antelope this past fall brought some fresh off the tree apples from the Lake Chelan area of taxington. These apples are a new'ish breed called "Pink Pearls" and their flesh was very reddish/pink! The VarmintWife made several pies from them between early October and Christmas time and the pies were just outstanding and the apple in the pies were slightly firmish and just wonderful tasting. If anyone has the chance to try these Pink Pearl apples for a pie please do so - I am sure you will be happy with them. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

My grandmother made the best apple pie I ever had, she showed other family members to make it, but the others never came out the same as hers. Dang, I miss her..... Iv'e found that on the old recipes, it was rarely measure but just toss in. Worked well. I"ve also found them hard to replicate. BUT I have found if you play with the old recipes you can almost always come up with something even better tasting. I know, I'll go to hell for saying that, but its the truth. Then again it was real lard, pure flour, real butter, yard eggs and such. ALL of those make a HUGE difference. Especially yard eggs vs store IMHO.

Apple Pie with a nice slice of Vermont Cheddar on top. Man, I never understood that whole cheddar cheese on pie thang. Have you tried it? Its really a wild mix of flavors that I like but rarely remember to try. Cheddar slice sitting on the counter all warmed up and then over the pie and in the microwave for just a bit.. amazing really

Pecan or cherry cheesecake The cheesecake thread was last month.
Know fat, know flavor. No fat, no flavor.
I tried going vegan, but then realized it was a big missed steak.

Any type pie except a meringue…. Best pie I ever ate was a concoction of graham crust lightly coated with Hershey chocolate under a small layer of chocolate pudding with a thick layer of cream cheese and topped with tart cherries and whipped cream….

Raspberry rhubarb, raspberry strawberry, or tart cherry. Be Well, RZ.

Nightmares! I had a coworker with a huge humpback and coke bottle glasses try to flirt with me to that song once many years ago. Every time I’ve heard the song since I’ve never been able to not think about the flirty nearsighted humpbacked woman squinting at me and asking me “soooo… what’s your favorite pie?” While that song blasted in the background of our chemical lab. Happy to be of assistance.
