The New Service is a great revolver in its own right, but its no S&W N frame. While I have always felt Colt had the better medium frame, S&W's N frame is a big step up from the New Service. Sure the New Service is probably a little more reliable, perhaps even more durable, and probably a touch more accurate (lot of records set with New Service revolvers). But the S&W action is light years better back in those days, as is the single action. Sights are better, the overall gun is a little more compact, and has MUCH better ergonomics. The N frame grip is more comfortable, reach to the trigger is much better. But I love my New Service and I love the history it represents. Just a cool revolver to own and shoot.
