I've shot a boatload of mulies but I decided to take a whitetail this year and I was very surprised and happy with him. I missed a smaller one that was with him and this guy ran 30-40 yards and stopped (thank you rut) and I drilled him. Very cool heavy compact rack. I'm going to do a European mount on him.

Mbhunt: Congratulations on that fine trophy!
I think those are the longest "eyeguards" I have ever seen on a Whitetail?
Good for you.

It's in a draw off a creek bottom in Montana. I hadn't found a muley I wanted to shoot after hiking through the hills so I did an easy evening hunt in the bottoms. Ran into a small group of whitetails in the draw and it happened in a flash like it usually does.

mbhunt, Beautiful buck ! Same story with me, have shot several blacktail and mule deer, but got my first whitetail this year too. Nothing like yours, but still very excited over it.
Idaho F&G also had a special hunt this year for Mulie and Whitetail for a chronic wasting disease study. Got a whitetail doe tag, and scored there too.
Plenty of tasty deer meat this year.

My son and I hunted unit 14 this year for mulies. He shot a 4x4 and he sent in lymph nodes to see if it had chronic wasting disease. I don't think he's got the results back yet.

300 Win Mag with Black Hills ammo and 165gr Hornady GMX bullet. Shot was probably 175ish yards but with it happening in a blur in low light shooting off my knees it made it a tad sportier.

Man that’s awesome! Can’t really call those “tines”. Holy moly they are DAGGERS! I have one mounted I shot in 2008 that has 11” G2’s…but only 4” brows. Congrats on a whopper and to be your first whitetail…WOW! Nice job.
