and I took it as soon as possible. Figuring out all the percentages based on age etc, I would have to hit 90 before the total paid after waiting to start it equaled what the total would be if I took it from day one..

Or maybe we could get it earlier...........

My Social Security is not taxed, not so far anyway but I'm sure those fugging crooks will get around to it some day.

You might get a bit more if you wait, but you also lose $12,000 to $15,000 a year by not taking it the moment you can. It takes a looong time to make up that lost money.

Started taking mine at 62, and used it to pay all my debts. I turn 75 in two weeks and SS is my monthly pocket money.

Yep, this will be my first filing after a year of SS. My wife is younger and makes fair money, don't know how it will affect us. Should be less taxable income I hope.

When you turn 65, your Part B will trim about $170 (currently) from your check, assuming you don’t opt out. We got a 5.9% raise, but the Part B went up about $30. My net went up $99, about enough to cover my rum ration.

Because of investment income, my SS actually went down about $300 a month after the "raise." I always think of the investment stuff as imaginary money, and only the amount in the bank is real. Meh. I still get more than I spend each month.

I went through all that. Waited from 62 to 67, the increase begins to diminish after that. While it's all a crap shoot, Grandmother lived to 104, Grandad 96, Mom died 3 weeks ago at 86, dad still going at 93.................

Basically same here, been retired and on a pension since 2007. I found the wife a job, December. It'll all end up going to the girls or a 'cabin in the woods'............

I pretty much dicker with guns as I please anyway.........

Even the wife 'bird dogs' them for me when she sees one offered on the local neighborhood gossip page............. I could sell her for cash money!!!! smile

Depends on how old you are and how much you make. I kept reported income below the threshold until I hit 67, then no problem…make all you want.

I know an auto worker who retired on disability after a motorcycle accident, and when he started collecting SS, they offset his pension by the same amount; at least that’s how it was explained to me. Guess we need to read the fine print😡

Thankfully, nothing of that sort happened to me, so far anyway. Never know what the greedy-guts in Congress will try to pull.
