I remember a time when there weren't fuggin' commies everywhere. Those commies were there and now their children and grand children and are elected to office, teach our children and grand children.

Clamp on skates, you wore the key on a shoe lace around your neck. Getting chips of ice in the summer from the ice man delivering to the Mom & Pop stores around the corner. The junk man with a horse drawn wagon, the milk man delivering to a box outside the back door. Egg delivery, unbrella repair and insurance man the all came to your house back in the day. My Grandmother feeding hobos a sandwich for lunch, she wouldn't let them in the house, they had to eat out on the back steps.

Ladies wearing hats and white gloves to church, men and boys wore fedora hats. Hat check girls lots of places you went, checked your hat & coat for a small tip. Speaking of trading stamps, my mother got me my first .22 rifle with green stamps. a Remington model 511.

Cloth feed sacs, when the store help would move most of a stack of sacs, on Saturday night, to get to the ones the wife wanted. I've seen the guy at the feed store move half the laying mash stock until my grandmother could match patterns. My mother, on the other hand, grew up wearing flour sack and feed sack clothing. She wasn't having any part of that! She would rather scratch pennies together and go half naked than wear anything made from a sack. She wasn't stuck up, she'd just had all she wanted. She was the youngest of 6 girls. No sons in a single parent household during the Depression. The woman could make a worn out shoe sole taste good! ....and feed a family of 5 with next to nothing! We ate lots of soups, stews and beans. P.S. - when pop offered you a slice of bread, he wasn't being nice. Bread, biscuits, cornbread and gravy were cheap fillers. It wasn't required, but you didn't refuse.
