Whole family, loading up in the 57 Chevy for the drive in picture show. Taking our own popcorn from home and ice water in mason jars.

A station wagon with a third seat that faced the rear window. I didn't like sitting there.

Grampa buying seven .30-30 shells before deer season started.
Seven shells lasted him 2 seasons! 😳!

Buying 10 shotgun shells at Babcock Bros because I couldn't afford $1.25/bx ammo on my allowance*!
*- allowance my a$$! I worked for that $1!

A red and green box of Remington "Kleen-Bore" .22 LR for 50 cents at Collier's Store over at Swanson Hill. Riding my bike 2.5 miles over to buy it and then 2.5 miles back home!

Watching my grampa roll a PA cigarette.

Pocket watches.

Watching steam locomotives on the MKT railroad in Houston, TX. (1950's) They were bright red with white trim/accent.

We had one (“58 Chevy and maybe a’59) and we fought to see who got to ride in the back.

THE COLD WAR

Atom bomb attack drills at school where you get under your desk or retreat to the designated fallout shelter building.

Certain building around school and around town that were designated "Fallout Shelters"

Don't eat snow or drink rainwater because of radioactive fallout coming from New Mex test sites.

Yup. Like it was gonna help😛

We all had little boxes of survival food and stuff like folding checkerboards, to take our minds off dying of radiation poisoning, I suppose. Years later I was poking around in the boiler room where I worked and found a stash of emergency supplies: canned water, feminine hygiene stuff, porta-potty, and a Geiger counter, an odd mix.

Dimes, quarters, and half dollars actually made out of silver.

Don't blame me. I voted for Trump.

Caught my first bass with a 5’ steel casting rod with a Pfluger level wind reel. 20# black Dacron line. The reel is on a glass rod these days and I still use it. Still catches fish. The lure that day was a Johnson Silver Spoon with a pork rind tail. It’s the big one to the left. Ballpark 1954 on the Kissimmee River.
