We bought em at the PX at 29 Stumps and carried em on the back of or old haversacks when out in the Delta corridor. Whole damn company had one. Even the Skipper. Before the days of them fancy water packs.

I remember ‘Lucky Strikes’ at 20 cents a pack or $1.70 a carton in the PX at Fort Carson—Tuesday nite special rum and coke a nickel a glass. At that elevation it didn’t take many.

Lawn Darts. When I was about 10, I was at camp and a kid was standing around in the line of fire and got hit in the top of his head by a lawn dart. I watched it happen. Fortunately it didn't penetrate the skull or he'd be dead. Of course we thought it was funny.

See how many people you can fit in a phone booth.

How about a window mount swamp cooler? What the hell is that?

Flat bicycle tires with tubes.
Snicker shooters made with innertube.
Cutting long strands of truck innerntubes to stretch across the ranch roads between pastrures to keep cattle from going through.
Crawling under the car in the dirt to tie up tailpipes with bailing wire or clothes hangars.
Rusted out mufflers.

When I was in grade school in Northern Vermont in early 1950's there was a small shack about the size of a phone booth across from the school in town. The ladies in town all volunteered to stand watch a few hours each week. They were equipped with a binocular and a plane ID chart and phone with a direct Line to Ethan Allen AFB about 30 miles away. Job was to report all aircraft seen. Can't recall for sure, but think it was part of the civil defense act signed by Ike around then. Some part of duck and cover? Old Cuss
