What about all the rocks the dinosaurs walked on?

A neighbor found a dinosaur egg. It's about the size and shape of a chicken egg, slightly flattened on one side, indicating a leathery shell. A chip shows both an outer and inner membrane, and interior content.

Coolest fossil I've ever seen.

He found it in a load of gravel delivered to his building site. So, no, rock has been made since the life originated.

Much of North Idaho's geology is the same. The rocks there, and in Northwestern Montana, are over 1 billion years old, so most of them predate life on Earth too. Makes for mighty poor fossil hunting.

Underneath them is granite from the Idaho batholith and on top of them in many places are the Columbia River Basalts.

So, what you have, is 17 to 6 million year old basalt (lava rock) on top of 1.5 to 0.9 billion year old sedimentary rock (mudstone, sandstone, etc.), on top of 55 million year old granite. There are a few scattered places where you can find fossils from a few 10's of millions of years ago but they're very scattered and hard to find. Our rocks are all way too old or too young for Idaho to have any fossil fuels (natural gas, oil, or coal) to speak of.
