Sorry but LSU fans are the least classy of any I've seen. There are a lot of OU fans that will not go back to an LSU game in LA after the way they were treated before, during, and after the 2003 NC game in NO by LSU fans. It even goes beyond the repeated cursing and name calling, taunting of 2s and 3s by dozens, and the pushing and shoving of senior citizens. The city of NO ridiculed OU's request for a police escort for their team buses and that is a standard practice at bowl games. There were other agregious afronts, but I'm getting pissed just thinking about them.

Your experience and story above is the exact opposite of what I experienced. I didn't actually go to the game in the Dome when LSU played OU for the national championship in '03, but was down in NOLA with a very large group of LSU faithful who rented out the entire second floor of a bar down in the French Quarter. The bottom floor was still open for regular business, and was absolutely packed with LSU and OU fans watching the game together...

The atmosphere was fantastic, and everyone was having a great time together. In fact, a lot of us from the upstairs party were downstairs just as much, hanging out with groups of fans from OU so we could 'jaw' at each other during the game ...

If you had a bad experience with LSU fans, I'd be very inclined to say it was a much more isolated and rare occurrence than is the norm... I'm not about to say that we're angels down here ... but we're definitely not a bunch of senior-citizen pushing thugs as you've suggested ...

I don't think it would be a stretch, for me to say that since I've lived here all my life, that I've seen more than you, regarding LSU fans interacting with opposing team's fans ... and when I tell you it's isolated, you can take that to the bank ...

If your experience has been any different, I would lay the blame solely on you and your attitude, for drawing any 'ills' from the Tiger faithful ...

If you ever came to a tailgate party before an LSU game, you'd notice that the opposing team's fans are welcome at nearly every single party, being offered all the food and drink they care to have, free of charge ... and hang out with us all day long before kickoff ...

There are bad apples in every bunch ... as I said, the events you describe are not the norm, and what I consider 'isolated' ... Maybe your view of 'isolated' and mine are just years apart?

No doubt, OU got their asses handed to them in 2004, but that was not the case in 2003. OU played like ass against LSU and lost by 7. Too boot, at the end of the game OU was on LSU's end of the field and throwing incompletions to open receivers close to the LSU endzone. I'm pretty sure 7 points does not constitute an ass kicking.

Seriously, sorry for the outburst. I just get tired of the revisionist crap. The BCS decide who played in the NC game last year and will this year too. I seriously doubt that if the BCS decides LSU is in the NC game this year that you will be griping about it. The BCS, not OU, decided who would play in 2003.

Well, as you said, you didn't attend the game. I can only attest to what was seen and experienced and what was and is expressed by OU fans that attended the game. A lot will not go back and these are folks that experience obnoxious fans every year.

The single worst experience I've ever had with another teams fans was during the '03 BCS Championship game. I ended up sitting in an OU section. When I first got there I introduced myself to everyone around me and made conversation with most of them. An guy behind me in his 40s just started at me when I turned around and said "how's it going". Fast forward to the 4th quarter. I'm taking a picture of a friend of mine and his dad a few rows below me. Just as I'm taking the picture I get pushed from behind. When I turn around the guy is staring at me and tells me I need to sit my ass down unless I want an ass kicking. Then his wife goes off telling my wife she needs to control me. Probably the only time in my life I've turned the other cheek because I wasn't about to miss seeing LSU win the nat'l championship. This is in addition to the two lesbians next to us that were ruder than [bleep]. I know if I had gotten kicked out of that game for fighting I would have regretted for the rest of my life but sometimes I wish I would have thrown that azzhat down the stairs. They ended up leaving with about 3 or 4 minutes left in the game.

The main reason I typed all that is to point out that every school has [bleep] fans, no ones exempt. And if another fan gets pissed off because someone yells tigerbait at them, they need thicker skin and should consider not going to away games.

Another thing to keep in mind is that most of the people in New Orleans aren't your usual Tiger Fans. Most of the bad stories I heard wouldn't have happened at a neutral site where only the real fans are present.

I had a post last week on some mistreatment of WVU fans at the hands of Maryland fans. A whole lot of resentment and animosity between the two schools and their fans.

Pitt and WVU seemed to have more fights and stuff of that nature than any other rivalry I have seen. Hence the nickname 'Backyard Brawl'. The Maryland - WVU stuff is much more malignant. Insults guaranteed to get even the most even keeled man fighting mad.

But believe it or not the most insane fan behavior I have ever seen was at a WVU game directed not at fans of other teams, but at my father. 4 drunks sat down behind us and started hassling my mother. Mostly because she was a beautiful woman and they were drunk. It quickly got very out of hand.

Ended up with the police escorting the four young men out of the stadium. Could have ended very badly but it turned out that my dad was in the Marine Corps with the head of the WV state police. One phone call and the confirmation of those around us quickly settled the matter as to who was out of line... but my dad, the biggest WVU football fan alive, would never go watch them in person again. Sad.

Funny enough, I actually ran into one of these drunks a couple years later. He never recognized me and to this day has no idea what hit him or why. Karma is funny that way.

Mix a lot of passion, a lot of liquor, and a very crowded occasion and there is no telling what will happen.

Will

I've seen bad fans from both schools at every college game that I've been to. Same goes for the good fans, which have far out numbered the bad ones.
Usually there is some beer or booze involved when some get out of hand or go over board. Some people are just a-holes.

As a big SOONER fan I'll say sorry to LSU fan for the rudeness that you were subjected to at the National Championship Game and Congrats for winning. It still pisses me off that USC claims to have won the NC.

Thanks Zeke but no apology neccesary. It wasn't your fault and I don't hate all OU fans because of it. Some of the others I was sitting by (included a HUGE biker looking guy) were nice as can be.

I've heard a lot of stories about LSU games in Baton Rouge...the thing is, its like Ruraldoc said, when it comes down to it, a Cajun might waste a beer throwing it because he knows there's plenty more close by, but they're mostly just a little mouthy and generally fun loving. They're small in number, but I've found Ole Miss fans to be particularly a$$holish the last few years. We stole Tubs from them, then they got a taste of a 10 win season with Eli, and next thing you know they're obnoxious football fans. Coach O ought to be able to put them back in to the proper perspctive of accepting mediocrity.

It should also be noted that when UGA scored the winning TD in OT last saturday against UGA, the cups, and whiskey bottles rained down from the Alabama student section on the UGA players to the point Saban had to comment on it in a press conference the next day. His reply about his own fans? "No I don't think its classy to throw things, and I don't think its classy to call someone in the middle of the night to complain." When asked if someone had called him he said he didn't answer the phone at his house. Its come out that the OC Major Applewhite got a midnight call, allegedly from a drunk big money booster, complaining about his play calling. Saban ole bud, when you signed up for the richest job in college football, did you not expect such calls? I mean big money means access. Rank and file fan didn't have Applewhite's home number I can assure you. And your constituency isn't known for actually having class, though they throw the word around a lot as if they know what it means.

I call a big old steaming bullsh!t on that one. I was at that game, and I was downtown most of the afternoon. There were plenty of OU people sitting near us in the Dome, and the atmosphere was very cordial and good-natured, even late in the game when drink had been taken by both camps. At the tailgating, it was friendly, with the usual chanting and taunting. I saw no fights, before, during or after the game. I also saw OU get its ass kicked, and since you apparently didn't, I doubt you were watching the same game everybody else was.

Don't confuse French Quarter bar flies, scammers and drunks with LSU fans. I could go down there right now and they'd be just as rude and ready to fight with me as they would be to you. That has nothing to do with LSU fans.

Our ability to host big events is legendary....the hospitality at the Sugar Bowl has never been complained about by anybody....at least not that I have read. And of course the Super Bowl is much bigger and we are the acknowledged best venue for that. So I'd suggest, with respect, that you've heard of a couple of incidents third hand, and don't have a clue what the game was really like or what the reception the OU fans received was. And I've never seen a team bus without a motorcycle escort so I suspect that story is an urban legend. Its illegal for buses to even be in the Quarter without police escort. Their vibration destroys the old buildings, so they have to have special permission even to go there. I seriously doubt somebody picked out the Sooners to not recieve what every high school team playing in the Dome receives automatically. Again, BS.

Here's what your coach said, from the offical OU football website:

Stoops Quotes from Sugar Bowl

It's been a great few days in New Orleans, and I would like to thank the Sugar Bowl Committee. The people of New Orleans have been incredible with their hospitality in helping us experience this great city and this great bowl game.

Say what you want as you obviously see what you want, but please don't assume to know what I saw, because you obviously don't. As far as what Coach Stoops said, well that is called being "polite".

.280,

That would seem very improbable, but I know better. This is the same bunch that threw a brick through Bill Curry's window after a 10 win season. It's time to pass a little Xanax around in Tuscaloosa.

His reply about his own fans? "No I don't think its classy to throw things, and I don't think its classy to call someone in the middle of the night to complain." When asked if someone had called him he said he didn't answer the phone at his house. Its come out that the OC Major Apple-white got a midnight call, allegedly from a drunk big money booster, complaining about his play calling. Saban ole bud, when you signed up for the richest job in college football, did you not expect such calls? I mean big money means access. Rank and file fan didn't have Apple-white's home number I can assure you. And your constituency isn't known for actually having class, though they throw the word around a lot as if they know what it means.

Granted it would seem improbable or over the top to an outsider. You and I know better. Xanax won't touch the delusional behavior many bammers suffer from. They be's see'n thangs! They hired the $32 Million Dollar Man and started having visions of Crystal Football Trophies dancing in their heads. I know you're pretty close to it all in Atalanta, but still there's a buffer...you don't have to suffer the litany of phone calls to sports talk shows that begin and/or end with "rowtide" or "RTR y'all".
