I've been going to work every day for two years and going to the stores. Now that many of the restrictions have been lifted I've seen about twice as many people out in the world again. And they're all fat as a German kid whose dad owns a chocolate factory. What happened with all those Pelotons sold during the lockdown?

They're an expensive coat rack for clothes that are now too small.

I've noticed a lot of very overweight kids. It's kid of crazy to imagine where their health will be by the time they hit 30 or so. I was a skinny little [bleep] as a teenager. But we lived rural, did a lot of chores, and didn't have money for fast food. Around 1977 when I was 16 years old,

Been all over the world. Believe me when I tell you that no one holds a candle to the gluteny of the average spoiled, entitled American. Add to that the acceptance of a sedentary life style. As a kid there was usually 1 kid with a peanut allergy or chunky, now it seems most of them are "afflicted" in some way. Pathetic. Send them out as labor on Jim Conrad's place for the summer. He'll work off that baby fat, maybe even instill some work ethic!

When I went to USMC boot camp in 1979, I had never eaten so much food in my life.
I think I put on 15-20 lbs in boot camp.

I’d say I’m obese at 230lbs. (5’11”). 200-210 is about right for me and I gotta back away from the table for a while (usually have to do that about every other year. Bro in law is my height. Former body builder. Currently runs 5-10 miles a day. Weighs 240. He finally found a doctor that didn’t keep whining about his being “obese”.

The big thing that strikes me now is how much bigger kids are compared to when I was young. In general everyone just looks worse than 20 years ago when I was in high school, and weight is the primary reason.
It also depends on where you live - if you move from Louisiana to Colorado you will think everyone is skinny. I travel from Louisiana to Colorado for vacation almost every year. I see quite a few heavies. They are all visiting from the southeast.

I honestly need to lose about 20 pounds but I don't have the muffin top rolls bulging over my belt like I see everywhere now. What's ironic is that a lot of people who claim to be "poor" and need free schit, don't have a problem buying too much food. I saw a woman that had to be 350 pounds zip up to the checkout line in her grocery store courtesy scooter yesterday and pay with food stamps.

I think I put on 15-20 lbs in boot camp. We starved at Parris Island in 1976. I was always hungry and I was lean....so not being starved because I was a fat-body. I gained zero weight in boot camp. And when I had my week of KP, I was sneaking leftovers into my mouth! At great risk!

At least once a week, something on the news about “fighting hunger” in children, or some charity drive or Democrat “initiative” to address same.
Short of the few meth-heads/crackheads who are actively ignoring/abusing their children, I can honestly say I’ve NEVER seen a “starving child”.
These folks are literally feeding kids “to death”...

A few outliers who won the genetic lottery, but if the average american working an average job eats the average american diet, you are going to be overweight. You have to be very intentional via diet and exercise to met the standard of not obese, as laid out by the BMI. Any processed food is garbage and sugar is in everything. So basically if you say [bleep] it for a few years and don't stick to an exercise routine and eat everything you want to eat, you will be considered obese. Kids who are in sports are in better shape due to better coaching and conditioning than we had when we were kids. And club sports run year round. I do remember big kids though when I was growing up too.
