Been thinking about these ever since I saw one for sale a while back. Wasn't in a position to buy it then, but been thinking of picking one up, putting a raised cap on the rear to make a trailer hauler, camper, or weekend roadtrip sleep-in-the-cab or back machine.
Size doesn't bother me. I think they are longer than a traditional Ext Cab Long Bed, but shorter than a Crew/Double Cab short bed.

They are about the same length as a traditional crew cab long bed. The huge cab is awesome for what you're wanting to do. What year is the truck and how many miles?

Haven't located one yet, One I saw was around $24k and 150k miles 2006 but that was last year. Don't want to mess with the 6.7 so 06 is the only option. Really nice shape from the pictures, and had the truck cap.
Never gave them much thought until I saw that configuration. Then the possibilities stood out.

I've never owned a Dodge but the model you are talking about is exactly what I'd buy if I were buying one. Makes for the perfect road trip machine.

Would never pay 20+ grand for a six ft long shortbed, no matter how much leg room the cab gives yah. Delivering cords of wood, 4x4x8 ft stacked, is a cord. 6 ft bed wont do it. Of the old trucks, real crew cabs seat 6ft tall folks out back with plenty of leg room, have 8 ft beds and dont need special names like "mega", ahem ford.........

Becuase of cowardly bidens inflation mess, locking alaska from producing more oil, heating fuel prices have sky rocketed. Alaskan birch goes $400 a cord, before i even close the dmn tailgate. Itll go up even more i bet.

We burn a lot of Mesquite but don't buy it as we have a lot of dead trees on the N,Ranch, and it's the only wood we have a lot of,
When i was a kid in Colorado, we sold all the Spruce and Yellow Pine we could cut and haul to the Ski Areas for $35.00 a cord and we were getting rich, that was a long time ago. Rio

The newer Mega Cabs don't give any more leg room in the back seat. It gives better storage behind the back seat. Chevy and Ford have the same leg room, more than the Dodge/Ram.

My 2007 has the 5.9 Cummins. I think they changed mid year.

I have the truck youre asking about, other than mega cab.
Few things to check, that if they haven't been addressed, 99% chance you will need to in the near future.
Transmission (obviously) Steering/front end in general. Ball joints especially. Turbo.
