I don't recall ever hunting to make memories, but some of my best and most cherished memories are from hunting.

Fireball2: "I Hunt - therefore I am"!
Hunting is one of the top three things in my life - first is loving my family and second is providing for my family - I've accomplished those two things and will keep at them.
I will be Hunting til the day I die - God willing.
I will say this of all the Hunts, and all the trophies and all of the amazing experiences I've had Hunting, and of all the friends I have made who I Hunt with - the beauty of the places I have Hunted Big Game and Varmints (Alberta, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Idaho, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, Montana, Texas and some places in between I've forgotten) in is what I remember most vividly and most often!
I guess I could just go somewhere and walk around in the foothills, woods, prairies, rain forests and river bottoms and just enjoy that - and I have - a million times.
But the "Hunt" is ingrained in my psyche and my life style to such an extent it sometimes concerns me?
I am a Hunter - and I am proud of that.
But some of my most enjoyable and memorable Hunts have me bringing no game or Varmints to bag at all.

Nailed it.

I remember the events, the places, the weather, the people with, the scenery, way more than the kills.

Started hunting with a pellet gun. Stepped up to a .410 before I was a teenager. Then my Uncle gave me a minigun. For me it’s more about the thrill rather than the food. I will admit that I do love me some fried quail.

I am..........disturbed.

Once we moved to the west, I began teaching myself to hunt and it has been very important to me ever since. Except for a few hunts with dear friends early on, for the past 50 or so years I have been a solo hunter - mostly in the NF mountains and big high deserts of the southwest. I hunt to find and identify game that we will eat and to kill it as quickly and humanely s possible - and to get rid of varmints. There are only one or two photos of me and/or killed game. Many wonderful memories have ensued.

A lot of the stuff from 'ago' that is etched into my brain is/was from hunting......

but that's not 'why' I was in the woods..................

A memory was 'created' this morning.... sitting in a wood line with my BIL, watching a pasture, Big gobbler, a jake, 4ish hens, easing our way. Lead hen starts walking with a purpose, straight for us.... beeline to right in front about 4 yards, stops and eyeballs us, then putts herself away..............

The best part of the shift from making meat to making memories, is you get to sleep in.... wink
