Ya, that’s cheating 🙂 Years ago me and a noted Ornithologist were crawling through a muddly swamp trying to get a visual on the westernmost record of a breeding Swainson’s warbler. Hours of literal crawling through dense brush, mosquitoes, chiggers, the works.

Finally he pulls out a tape recorder and plays the song, the friggin’ bird flew right at him, almost hit him in the head, and perched singing maybe 5 feet up 🙂

We moved from the northern part of the state about 120 miles south. The bird species changed markedly. The first spring here we Had a small brown, apparently ground dwelling bird that was really non-descript and isn’t seem to fit any of the illustrations in my books. Googled it several times and finally got a picture of a Thrush that matched. Called up a recording of their song on my cell phone and went out on the porch and played it. The whole creek bank came alive with them singing back.

Pretty cool!

Orioles are back. Heard them this morning.

Bought the wife a need top fill hummingbird feeder the other day, as they are usually coming through about this time of year. She texted the neighbor lady and they've already seen a couple, and when I talked to the neighbor on the other side yesterday he said they've had a couple too. Sure sign the weather is changing for good.
