So on GB there are two with bid prices at $1200+ and $1800+
So I bought a decent one yesterday. It has a leupold VX2
3-9x40 Price was $850. How did I do?
My plan is to shoot it and see how it does and add a quality synthetic (Brown, Basner,?) and use the heck out of it.

I think you did very well. BSA could probably find one for a few bucks less (grin); but anymore that’s a pretty decent score especially with scope. I have watched the GB examples you mentioned and was surprised myself.

There was also one on gunbroker the description was completely wrong he actually had an early six digit if I remember correctly which would be more desirable by far than what he said it was.

So does six digit still start with a G?

When you say how many digits a rifle is it never included the G.

Sounds great. Im assuming Tupperware stock? The leupold is probably worth $275, if its in good condition. Good score on that 5 digit.

5 digit is definitely worth more to me, i don’t know about anyone else. All mine are under 175,000. I think you do better when you start to stack the rarity. Like 5 digit, stainless, short action, caliber that starts to add up.

I think you got a good deal.

Now I have to pull my
338 win mag out of the safe to look at the serial number. It was a replacement from Winchester in early
90’s.

reddog, those stocks are not bad. Glass bed it properly and they are very serviceable. I'll generally paint them up and throw a red pachmayr decelerator on them. Makes them much nicer. Ergo's are good for me, but they are still heavy. An upgrade is definitely a Mcmillan or similar stock, but those are spendy..

Yes, the 5 digits command more of a premium. Those that know realize this, but you'd be surprised how many people don't know this..
