Seen four on my elk hunts. One that I didn’t see however got my attention. About ten years ago I was elk hunting by myself in Angel Fire, NM on a ranch. One morning I started out on a dirt road with sandy type soil. I walked the road for about a quarter mile before heading up into the timber. A few hours later I had made a loop, coming out along the same dirt road. I saw my tracks from that morning, obviously in the opposite direction. There were cougar tracks in my tracks from that morning and I noted they followed my tracks as I ascended the trail through the timber.

I never saw him. I didn’t get too shook up about it though….figured it was more than likely just curious. I snapped a pic of my boot next to the track. Those more educated than me about cougars estimated it at about 175#.
