First time setting up a rifle with 20moa rail...wondering what others prefer in regard to scope ring height. I'd think a set of Low's would make the most sense.
Scope will be a leupy with 40mm objective, so clearance there won't be an issue....

TIA

The height that allows a good fit between your cheek and the comb is more important that the amount of air space between barrel and scope........

I have used lows even with my Swarovski 50mm objective, Vortex, Seekins and Ken Farrell.

Center Heights

Vortex = .900"
Seekins = .802"
Ken Farrell = .735"

The Ken Farrell would not clear the bolt handle on the Defiance Tenacity or Anti actions, even with super slim handles.

The lowest you can get is still going to give you a half inch gap between the objective and the barrel with a 40mm obj. scope.

Just mounted a 4.5 x 14 x 40 Leupold,Weaver low rings(4 x 4) and a Warne 20 MOA rail on a Tikka standard bbl. 6.5 and objective is .100" off of the bbl.....

Thoughts on the Seekins rings? Did you lap them?
I'm setting up a PH2...might as well keep it in the family i guess.

Pic that I had handy.... To the left is a PH with supplied rail, Seekins 30mm lows, and a 30mm scope with 50mm objective. No lapping, really good fit.

I did not have to lap them, they fit perfectly and left no ring marks.

The Seekins rings are made by Vortex, at least that was the information I was given.

I will be swapping the Vortex on my 280 Ackley with a set of Seekins lows that I have.

Also, I need to correct an error in my previous post, the Seekins lows are .820" not .802".

Thanks Darryle

I believe it’s the other way around.

Yep. The Vortex Precision Matched rings were made by Seekins.

Rem 700, varmint contour barrel. Weaver 20moa rail that is amongst the lowest I know of, & the lowest 30mm rings I'm aware of... Ken Farrell's. Leupold 40mm obj. & their non bulbous eye piece that many makers are now using.

Depends on the rifle and the uses.

I always subscribed to "as low as you can get" theory.

Found out after several years, medium height works better for me on my straight stocked hunting rifles. Looks a little wonky. But when I shoulder the rifle, I'm looking directly through the glass.

On my steel shooter I have .97" seekins 30mm on an Impact action with 20moa rail and a NX8. If I ever change, I'm going a bit higher.
