The latest issue of Rifle has an article by Lee J Hoots on rifles he has kept. I found myself agreeing with most of his choices. Curious what are your keepers?
Assuming your Grandmother's Roberts and a drilling or 2 and a 9.3? What else?

I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all.

I know he has expressed the desire to hunt closer to home and do less hunting "abroad".

Wonder how that has colored his keep/cull pile.

He wrote an article about this, I think. Might have been in the Rifle Looney News.

OGB,

Yeah, it was in RIFLE, and if I recall correctly the title was "The Rifles That Stuck."

And I am due for another one, because since writing that article (which was a while ago) I've sold at least one of the rifles on that list.

OGB,

You'll be second in line. My long-time friend and fellow gun writer Richard Mann told me years ago, when he was hunting with me here and got to handle it, that he wanted it!

But that was a while back, before he had kids in college. Will check with him and if he's no longer interested....

MickeyD,

Which one? Have a .257 Weatherby and .30-06--but both would be among the last I'd let go....

MD,
How does the NULA compare with the Barret Fieldcraft?

The Fieldcraft's were good rifles--but they weren't anywhere close to being NULAs.

Either one. At first thought the '06 would be slightly preferred, but then re-read your post. Completely missed where you said it was a 257 Weatherby and assumed you were referring to the Bob.
Just had cataract surgery a few weeks ago and my new eyes and my old glasses aren't working with each other very well
The Bee would be somewhat preferred. The world wide fame of your '06 and unique German proof mark is also a very strong draw.

Everything.

One of the "secrets" of NULA accuracy is the stock, one of the stiffest and strongest made. Which is why Melvin can get so much accuracy out of thin barrels: Fully-bedding them adds the stiffness of the forend to the barrel.

NULA actions are also made and "blue-printed" as precisely as any action I've encountered. It all adds up.

At one point, some years ago, Melvin told me he could center the reticle in a Leupold scope, mount it in his rings on one of his rifles, and the first shot at 100 yards would be within a couple inches of zero. I tried it on a few new NULAs and it worked just like he said.

That’s a pretty cool deal. Pretty hard to argue that sorta build precision.
