Interested in a Keltec SU 2000 in 9mm. Can it handle +P ammo? Anyone have one.....

Don't have one but they are notorious for failure to feed. There are plenty of discussions and videos documenting the problems with the SU 2000. Might want to look at something else.

+P ammo is stupid anyway.... Why use over ammo designed to be over pressure? Leave it in a hot car on a hot day and blow primers. Gun failure... all for a few extra fps that makes little difference anyway. Plus the blast and recoil impulse. Plus it usually costs more? Just buy some regular pressure and rock on. Problem soved

At the beginning of 2021 two of the folk I shoot USPSA with decided to try Kel-Tec 2000's in the carbine class. Neither carbine ran well enough to complete a match. One of the guys sent his off to Kel-tec and told me they could find nothing wrong The other used a gunsmith in Rapid City to work on his. Neither are shooting Kel-tec's this year. One went back to his Shadow 2, the other bought a CZ Scorpion that runs like a champ. I have a PLR-16 in 5.56 and have had no problems with function or feeding.

That stock contains a very strong action spring. The cocking handle zips back and forth by your cheek. My brother had one. He eventually sold it and bought an Aero Survival rifle.

They have a plastic feed ramp that gets chewed up by the case mouths as rounds chamber. I've made a few from tool steel, hardened and tempered them and they ran fine afterwards. That was a while ago so I'm sure there's probably an aftermarket company making them by now.

The pistol grip looks like a 9mm Kel-Tec P11, the first Kel-tec gun.



In the P11, a few times, I have shot 11 gr Power Pistol 158 gr 1.169"

For comparison:
Max Alliant load for 9mm is 5 gr Power Pistol 147 gr 1.130"
Max Alliant load for 357 mag is 8.5 gr Power Pistol 158 gr 1.575"

I have to resize the loaded ammo, as compressing the powder that hard can squish the bullet.

If I work up to the case head blows with AA#5, the extractor will be cut in half, but I stock extra parts.
The Kel-tec is tough.

Only one I have been around cracked right at the hinge. Less than 500 rounds through it. Sorta a cool gun before that though

I’d take a Kel-Tec SU2000 over a Hi-Point but that’s not saying much. I sold a lot of them years ago and everyone loved them for what they were. As I recall I fired +P through them as did many customers. I don’t know what they’re going for now but at around $300 they were worth it.

IMHO, buy a Ruger PC carbine. Better firearm.

I know that Kel Tec is located in Cocoa FL (like Major Anthony Nelson….. get the joke?), AND you DON’T need an RMA # for repairs. I know both of these facts, as I co-manage one of the busiest gun shops in NY, and we send back quite a few Keltec products for repair.

Im saying if you have a KelTech and worried about Plus P ammo the just buy standard ammo. Whats so hard for you retards to understand?

Standard pressure 9mm is heavier bullet and more velocity than .380 retard. Why some people are so baffled by ammo choice is amazing. Buy Boolits.... shoot gun.... Ugga wugga. If you need more tips message me and I will be glad to help
